NANJING -- Police in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu Province, have nabbed 47 suspects over human trafficking and rescued 40 babies, said senior officers with the Nanjing railway police office on Friday.A group of four women, each holding a newborn baby in arms but never breast-feeding the infants, arouse police suspicion on May 24 on a train from Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan Province, to Nanjing and were questioned.The women, including one identified as Lang Chunyan from Tancheng County of East China's Shandong Province, confessed that the babies were bought from Yunnan and they had been doing so with the help of two other suspects, Dao Xiufen and Ding Fachang, since 2005. While Lang's husband, Shen Yuzhou, was in charge of selling babies with the help of 10 human traders in Shandong.Lang also confessed that they usually buy a baby girl at 1,500 yuan (US0) but sell it for 8,000 yuan, while a baby boy usually costs them 8,000 yuan and can fetch 20,000 yuan for them.The Nanjing railway police set up a special team of more than 10 policemen to investigate the case.The team arrived in Yunnan on May 27 and arrested Dao, Ding and seven other suspects. Shen was later arrested in Shandong.Investigations found that the gang of human traders headed by Shen and Lang have bought 27 newborn babies in Yunnan during 16 trips and then sold them in Shandong.Forty out of more than 60 babies who were trafficked by the gang have been rescued by police so far, while police were trying to find the others.

China has sent rescue ships to search for a cargo vessel missing in the East China Sea with 17 Russian crew on board.The China Maritime Search and Rescue Center said on Friday it launched a search and rescue emergency plan soon after a rescue center in Russia's far east informed it of the missing boat on Thursday.The Cambodia-registered ship went missing on its way from Japan to Hong Kong.The vessel failed to arrive in Hong Kong on Thursday as scheduled, and the last radio contact was made with the ship on Sunday, when it was 212 sea miles (391 km) east of Shanghai.Russian rescue officials then informed rescue centers in China, Japan and South Korea of the Captain Uskov's disappearance."Our rescue ships have started searching," Zhai Jiugang, a senior official with China's search and rescue center, said.Vessels sailing in the East China Sea have also been informed by the center's branches in Shandong and Shanghai of the disappearance of the ship, and were asked to assist in the search, he said.The center is also using maritime satellites to help search for the vessel. GUANGZHOU: Doctors in this city have developed a new birth control surgery for men that could be made available to the public starting next year.The method involves making a small incision along the testicle. Doctors then place a tiny tube, about the size of a match, into the opening.The tube functions as a filter that blocks sperm, Wu Weixiong, the director of Guangzhou Family Planning Technology Center, said.The surgery has already been patented, and the health department will promote it as soon as it is approved by the National Food and Drug Administration, Zhu Jiaming, the vice-president of the Guangzhou Sexology Association, said.He expects approval to be granted by next year."The success rate for this form of birth control is 97 percent," he said.The tube can be removed without negatively affecting a man's sexual health, he said.Wu said the operation takes just 10 minutes. However, it is very difficult and requires highly skilled doctors.He said only a few hospitals have the staff and facilities necessary to carry out the procedure. However, training courses will soon be made available to local doctors.Wu said he believed enough facilities and manpower would be available to handle the demand for such operations by the time the procedure is officially approved."The success rate of the operation is almost 100 percent," Duan Jianhua, an official of Guangzhou population and family planning commission, said.Research on the operation started four years ago in Beijing. The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television has called a halt to all TV and radio programs on plastic surgery or sex-change operations.The administration issued a notice on Thursday that forbids programs with such "indecent themes and bloody and explicit scenes".As the decision states, it is forbidden to plan, program or broadcast any programs about plastic surgery or sex-change operations.The decision came as growing numbers of local TV stations decide to broadcast such programs, which have attracted complaints from many viewers.For example, Sun Min, a viewer in South China's Guangdong Province, said she found the scenes of plastic surgery in "New Agreement on Beauty", broadcast by a local TV station, to be "horrifying and sickening"."Ongoing programs of this kind should be stopped immediately," said the notice. Another two closed-end stock funds have received official approval from China's securities regulator, Xinhua learned from a company source here on Friday.     The China Nature Asset Management Co. Ltd's Tianzhi Fund and the Dongwu Fund run by Soochow Asset Management Co., Ltd received regulatory approval from the State Securities Regulatory Commission Friday.     The Tianzhi stock fund will open through China Communication Bank, China Construction Bank, the Agricultural Bank of China, the Industrial Bank Co., Ltd, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, CITIC Bank, Minsheng Banking Corp., Ltd, and with big brokers.     The Dongwu fund is to be issued by the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank, the Postal Savings Bank, Huaxia Bank and qualified individual brokers.     Both companies declined to say how much they expected to reap from the listing.     Four stock funds launched by Bank of China Investment Management Co., Ltd. and AXA SPDB Investment Managers, CCB Principal Asset Management Co. and China Southern Fund Management Co., respectively, received official approval in the first half of February.     Of the four, CCB Principal Asset Management's Jianxin Fund and the Nanfangshengyuan Fund run by China Southern Fund Management Co. made their debut on Feb. 18.     Market analysts said the launch of these funds was expected to bring a new round of fresh capital into the sliding stock market.     China's securities watchdog suspended the launch of new funds late last year in reaction to the surging domestic stock market.
