SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- At least five food handlers have tested positive for COVID-19 -- four restaurant employees and one grocery store employee, according to San Diego County health officials.County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Sunday that the grocery store alerted county officials and followed sanitation protocols before reopening the store.Fletcher also stressed that there is no evidence of COVID-19 association with food, citing the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.MORE: SAN DIEGO COUNTY COVID-19 TRACKER"If you have a sick worker, they must stay home," Fletcher said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 68-year-old woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she was sexually abused decades ago by a priest in Rialto, the latest in a wave of litigation targeting the Diocese of San Diego.The woman, identified only as Jane Doe, claims she was abused by Father Efren Neri while he served at Christ the King, a San Bernardino County parish that was then part of the Diocese of San Diego. “For many years, I just lived with it,” the woman said in an interview. “A lot of shame, anxiety all my life.”Father Neri died in 1982, according to the Diocese. In a statement, the Diocese said there are no reports Neri was ever accused of sexual misconduct with a minor. “None in San Diego, none in San Bernardino and none in Fresno,” the statement said. Last week, 20 people sued the Diocese of San Diego, alleging abuses by six other priests. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three congressional incumbents are defending their seats across San Diego County in the November election, while two other districts are up for grabs, with one representative retiring and another facing prison.In the 49th District, Rep. Mike Levin, D-San Juan Capistrano, will be challenged by Republican Brian Maryott to represent the district straddling San Diego and Orange counties.Levin won the seat in 2018, defeating Republican Diane Harkey in the general election, and taking over for Darrell Issa, who spent nearly two decades representing the area before announcing he would not seek re-election. Issa is now running to represent the 50th Congressional District.Maryott, a certified financial planner and San Juan Capistrano City Councilman, previously ran for the seat in 2018.Both candidates have identified assisting veterans and those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic among their chief priorities.Levin has advocated for strengthening the Affordable Care Act, while Maryott says he wants to end "Obamacare restrictions on specialty healthcare for our seniors" and opposes "nationalizing our world class healthcare system at all costs."Both candidates oppose offshore drilling and have identified the safe storage and removal of nuclear waste from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station as a priority. Scott Peters, D-San Diego, who has represented the 52nd District since 2013, will face off against Republican challenger Jim DeBello, who has decades of experience in the tech industry.In Peters' campaign statement, he states that the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and social justice are among his chief issues.He advocates for a "long-term federal plan to increase testing, speed vaccine development and ensure vaccines and treatments are available to everyone equally." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Camp Pendleton Marine was sentenced Monday to more than 17 years in prison for owning and distributing child pornography.William Walsh IV, 55, was arrested in May 2017. Escondido Police officers searched his home and seized hundreds of files Walsh had downloaded through peer-to-peer file sharing software.A jury found Walsh guilty of all charges. U.S. District Judge Anthony J. Battaglia said Walsh’s conduct was “on the extreme end of the cases I have seen.”“Today a man who committed terrible crimes against children was sentenced to many years in prison,” said U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman. “These horrible experiences will echo in the hearts and minds of young victims for a lifetime, and I am deeply distressed and deeply committed to pursuing cases that will protect our vulnerable youth from people like Walsh.”“Today’s sentence confirms that this predator can no longer victimize innocent children because he is off the streets and he is offline,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge John Brown. “This investigation showcases the success of collaborative federal and local investigations working toward a common goal.”Walsh will serve his sentence in federal prison. 1208
