RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - The young man found shot to death in a Ramona home was identified by his roommate Monday as a resident of Ukraine.San Diego County Sheriff's deputies got a 911 call reporting Sunday at 8 p.m. reporting shots fired near the home on Wood Rock Lane. They found the victim dead inside.Four people live in the home, including Ben Ledbetter. He said the victim, a 20-year-old man, worked for Ledbetter's mobile detailing business for four years. Ledbetter believes he is being targeted and said someone killed his best friend out of anger."He's 100 percent good.  His heart is strong, his will is strong.  His attitude was positive.  You couldn't kill a better person.  He was the best person you could ever know," Ledbetter said.The victim's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.Deputies shut down the area near the home until 1 p.m. Monday to search for evidence. Ledbetter told 10News that detectives took his phone, truck and clothes as part of the investigation.Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 858-974-2321 or 858-565-5200.   1182

Quick thinking and response by Independence, Ohio police officer Andrew March, made all the difference in the world for a woman police say was attempting to take her own life, on the I-480 bridge on April 20.Officer March responded at 9:30 AM, after getting information from Cleveland police, that the woman could be on the bridge.Independence police dash camera video shows Officer March quickly jumping out of his cruiser, and then jumping up to grab the woman's leg, pulling her down to safety."I was just thinking get there fast, and if she's climbing up, make sure she gets back down safely on the right side," said March."I just grabbed whatever is available and start pulling and hopefully and would get her to safety."March credited higher safety fencing, installed along the I-480 bridge by the Ohio Department of Transportation two months ago, with giving him more time to get to the scene."It definitely made a difference, if it would have been the old fencing, she probably would have made it over the top," said March.Independence Police Chief Michael Kilbane told News 5, he and police chief's in Valley View and Garfield Heights, started working with State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) last year to get the safety fencing improved."She really lobbied ODOT hard to get this done, and actually made them make it a priority," said Kilbane.Kilbane praised ODOT and said he hopes the safety fencing posted at other northeast Ohio bridges will be examined in the future."Again it if can just prevent one of them, or buy some time for somebody to get there and talk them out of it, or help them.  I think it's well worth the investment," said Kilbane.ODOT told News 5 it will install a 10-foot safety fence along the Lorain Road bridge, over the Rocky River, later this summer.Meanwhile, March told News 5 he doesn't feel like a hero, that he was just doing his job.Chief Kilbane disagrees."Andrew March is a hero," said Kilbane."I know he's a modest kid, but he saved a life today." 2054

Researchers at University of Michigan have developed a fake news detector to help fight against misinformation. The technology is "an algorithm-based system that identifies telltale linguistic cues in fake news stories." The team says the system is "comparable to and sometimes better than humans at correctly identifying fake news stories."According to their study, linguistic analysis tracks things like grammatical structure, word choice, punctuation and complexity. But there are challenges to making sure the system properly deciphers stories. Researchers say the difficulty in building a fake news detectors is not in developing the algorithm itself, "but in finding the right data with which to train that algorithm."The system is still in its beta stage. Retailers across the country have a new marketing theme this summer: Turn your backyard into a vacation haven. It seems most families agree as playground and trampoline retailers have been selling out of stock."It’s just been a huge surge in sales and for everything we sell. Almost like a frenzy, in a sense," says Pete DeLois. DeLois owns Recreations Outlet in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. He says their sales in April doubled their previous highest month."The most we’ve ever sold in any one month is little over 100. I mean, we sold 140 by the time we’d gotten through two weeks in April," DeLois said. Since Recreations Outlet pre-orders their equipment ahead of the spring and summer season, their inventory of playgrounds and trampolines quickly ran dry. DeLois put customers on a waiting list for up to 14 weeks."I also think some of the money they had maybe was allocated for vacations," says DeLois.Recreation Outlet shares space with a gymnastics facility which had to shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. DeLois says many parents can spend upwards of 0 a month in gymnastics classes and are likely looking for a physical outlet for their kids."There isn’t anything in our product mix that they’re not looking for. We sell basketball goals, play sets, trampolines, they all are good solutions for getting the kids outside the house and away from inside the house. Even entry-level playgrounds are sold out. They usually aren't."I've been doing this for 30 years. With a seasonal business it’s always a challenge when you're in that season because you end up doing-- in this industry you do about 70% in a five to six month window but we‘re prepared for it because we’ve done it over and over again.
