LAKESIDE (CNS) - A pileup on a rain-slick stretch of state Route 67 north of San Vicente Reservoir left one motorist dead Monday and another seriously injured.The chain-reaction series of crashes took place shortly before 7 a.m., when a 37-year-old Alpine woman lost control of her northbound Toyota Yaris near Foster Truck Trail in Lakeside, sending it veering sideways into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol.The resulting broadside collision fatally injured the driver of the subcompact car, CHP public-affairs Officer Travis Garrow said. Her name was withheld pending family notification.Following that crash, the truck, which was towing a trailer, careened onto the northbound side of the street, where a Chevrolet HHR station wagon hit it head-on.At that point, a Chevrolet 1500 pickup struck the back end of the HHR, and a Toyota Prius hit the right side of the Chevrolet 3500, Garrow said.Paramedics took the unidentified driver of the HHR to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for treatment of major injuries. Las Vegas police say they have found the body of a young child inside of a duffel bag after a mother told them that her 3-year-old daughter disappeared during a walk to a local grocery store.The woman called police around 9 p.m. local time Thursday. She told police she was walking with her four young children to Albertson’s, across the street from her apartment complex.The child's grandmother also contacted Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas and told the TV station that her grandchild was missing.Police officers searched the woman’s apartment first, not finding anything, and then the neighborhood. They decided to search the apartment again because parts of the woman’s story did not add up.During the second search, the body of a small child was found in a bag in a closet. Police officers detected a strong odor and it appears the body may have been in the closet for a few days. The woman was placed in custody and the other three children are in protective custody.The missing girl's father was arrested earlier this week after police received a call about a domestic disturbance.   1115

(KGTV) - A strip mall that had fallen into disrepair and attracted squatters has been placed into receivership, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.Located on the 7400 Block of Broadway, the property consisted of several buildings that had closed about a year ago after the city busted an illegal marijuana dispensary.But that’s when the real problems began.“Lots of police calls, criminal activities and police responses,” said Richardson Griswold, who was appointed as the receiver by a superior court judge on Friday.It came after the City of Lemon Grove had been granted a judgment against the owners of the property. The judgment required that the owners clean it up and properly secure it, but that was never completed.When the receiver arrived Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department was called in to remove six people who had been living inside. One of them was found hiding in the attic. Four were taken into custody on existing warrants.Inside, Griswold said there was “heaps of trash, clothing, and no plumbing, so there was the smell of human feces and human urine.”He had already hired a crew to start clearing out the buildings and board up the access points. (KGTV) — This week, police say they arrested a La Mesa businessman, who was the subject of an inappropriate video posted online earlier this year, for violating a restraining order.La Mesa Police said Peter Carzis was arrested Tuesday and charged with violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Officers responded to the 8200 block of Lemon Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. for a report of a possible restraining order violation. Carzis was contacted by officers outside of an apartment complex.As part of an active restraining order, Carzis is ordered to stay 100 yards away from the protected party's address, police said. Officers found Carzis sitting outside of the residence.Last January, Carzis was captured on video allegedly committing a lewd act with a woman on the sidewalk outside his clothing store, Peter's Men's apparel on La Mesa Boulevard. The video was posted on a Facebook community page.When news crews returned to the area to speak with Carzis, he allegedly attacked news reporters and photographers who were attempting to interview him outside his business.Carzis has pleaded not guilty to felony vandalism charges and misdemeanor counts of battery and committing a lewd act in public. 1232
