When you enter the sunset years of life, often there is reflection.Terry Criger likes to think of her former career as a school lunch lady in Arizona.“Oh, I loved it,” said Criger. “If I could go back, I would.”However, the passing of time eventually catches up to all of us.Criger’s been in an assisted care facility in Midvale, Utah for about a year and half now.“I had very high concerns that I would be put here and left, and fortunately I haven’t been,” Criger said through tears.She says if it wasn’t for her daughter, she’d be lost.“People here will ask what insurance you have and I’ll tell them that I don’t know and they need to ask my daughter,” Criger said.Criger is not alone.“It’s crazy. People just don’t know enough,” said Michelle Malais, a certified senior advisor.Navigating the world of health insurance and available services for our aging population can be overwhelming for families.“When it comes down to it, there is always a way; you just have to explore the different options and that’s where I come in,” Malais said.Malias is part of a national organization called Assisted Living Locaters, which helps families find the best options and how to pay for it.“I’m an advocate really for them,” Malais said. “It’s really important for our seniors to age with dignity.”Her introduction to the world of senior care was personal. Her mother suffered from dementia and her father struggled to offer care for her.“I’ll never forget that conversation because that was devastating to him,” Malais said. “He thought he had planned and, unfortunately, didn’t.”Now, she has made it a mission of sorts to make sure no one else is put in that position.“It’s very important to get ahead of the game,” Malais said.In most cases, that means having tough conversations with aging loved ones as soon as possible.Criger is adjusting well to her new life, and she has some advice for those willing to just roll the dice down the road.“You need to make a plan,” Criger said. “You need to plan for retirement because you never think you’re going to be, where you’re at in 20 years.” 2092

With five weeks remaining in the college football season, the College Football Playoff selection committee unveiled the first poll, and there is little surprise at who is at the top. Alabama, the defending national champs, was ranked No. 1 in the poll released Tuesday, followed by the 2017 champs No. 2-ranked Clemson. With Alabama and Clemson both sporting unbeaten records, it is not surprising to see the two squads at the top of the ranking. But the selection committee's third choice might leave some fans scratching their head. Rather than picking unbeaten Notre Dame at No. 3, the selection committee slotted one-loss LSU as the third pick. Notre Dame, who has a win over Michigan who is ranked at No. 5 in the CFP ranking, was at No. 4. With the toughest part of Notre Dame's schedule in the past, and no remaining Top 25 games remaining on the schedule, the Irish's chances of making the College Football Playoff are in question given that a one-loss team is already ahead of Notre Dame. A group of other one-loss teams are poised to potentially overtake Notre Dame at the No. 4 spot since most of those squads will get the opportunity to play in a conference title game. With Notre Dame being an independent, the Irish do not get the benefit of playing in a conference championship. Behind Michigan is a quintet of teams sporting 7-1 records going into Week 9. WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — An Ohio man who flew to Palm Beach County in order to smoke a joint with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago ended up under arrest instead, according to a sheriff's office report.The report says 27-year-old Tyler Jon Marrone of Columbus, Ohio, arrived at Palm Beach International Airport on April 18, the same day the president was hosting?Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Palm Beach.Marrone said he found a credit card that he thought was a gift from God so: "I bought myself a plane ticket to Florida to go see the President," the report states.A detective investigating the case said Marrone intended to drive to Mar-a-Lago, walk in and talk to Mr. Trump about "the static and frequency feedback that I constantly hear emanating from my basement and from fans and in my head." He wanted to figure out what they are saying, the report noted.Marrone also admitted that he had been kicked out of the Supreme Court Building in Ohio as well as several courthouses, according to the report.It was decided that Marrone met criteria for the Baker Act, which allows for an individual to be involuntarily committed.An investigator said while checking Marrone's bag a white substance was discovered that later tested positive for methamphetamine. The sheriff's office charged Marrone with possession of a schedule II substance. 1400
