BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China here Thursday questioned the intentions of foreign governments who supported the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize going to Liu Xiaobo, saying those governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."What is the true intention of those foreign political figures and governments who support the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Liu Xiaobo? Is it because they resent China's development path and hate China's political system?" Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu questioned.Ma said at a regular news briefing that whether China had chosen the best way to more forward, both politically and socially, was best judged by the development reality in China, and the 1.3 billion Chinese people had the biggest say."China's affairs should be left to Chinese people themselves," Ma said, adding that the few biased individuals with the Norwegian Nobel Committee had no right to judge China, and western governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."We never interfere in other's internal affairs, and will not allow others to interfere in ours, " said Ma.The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo on Oct. 8th in Oslo, Norway. Liu was sentenced to 11 years in jail on Dec. 25, 2009 after a local court in Beijing convicted him of agitation aimed at subverting the government.

KHARTOUM, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Ahmed Karti said on Friday his visit to China carried reassurances and confirmations to the Chinese side his government keenness to enhance cooperation with China even after a referendum to be held in southern Sudan."We have delivered a message on our keenness on continuation in enhancing the cooperation with China and expanding its investments in the country, particularly in north Sudan," Karti told reporters at Khartoum airport today upon return from a tour that included China and Egypt."China is an important country for Sudan and we are keen to fully coordinate with it, particularly with regard to current international issues. We are expecting China to play an important role in the international meeting on Sudan, scheduled for September 24, 2010," he added.He further stressed that Sudan was looking forward to enhancing ties with China, saying that "I have held consultations with the Chinese leadership on many issues and we have agreed on coordination during the forthcoming meetings of the United Nations General Assembly."The Sudanese minister described his visit to China as "one of the best official visits," adding that "we have managed to convey our viewpoint on many issues that has received complete response on the part of the Chinese leadership."On January 9, 2011, the southern Sudanese are expected to vote in a referendum on self-determination for southern Sudan to opt between unity or separation according to the provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), inked between north and south Sudan in 2005, and the Sudanese Constitution.The referendum would be considered legal if fifty eight percent of the registered voters participated in the referendum, and if the quorum was incomplete, there would be re-voting with the same terms in 60 days of the announcement of the referendum result.The result of the referendum would be decided by a simple majority of fifty percent plus one of the votes.

Such moves were "absurd, illegal and invalid," Ma said.As a neighbor of Japan, China has always attached importance to developing bilateral ties with Japan, Ma said."I hope Japan will work with China to jointly maintain relations between the two countries," Ma said.In the speech at the opening of an extraordinary Diet session on Friday, Naoto Kan also said amicable ties between Japan and China were vital not only for the two nations but also for the peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

  

BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- China and Cuba here on Tuesday celebrated the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties at a reception.Chinese and Cuban government officials as well as people from various circles attended the reception held in the Cuban embassy in China.Cuba is the first Latin American country to forge diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China, in 1960, said Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo when addressing the reception.China and Cuba have always supported and helped each other in the past fifty years, Dai said, highlighting their fruitful pragmatic cooperation in various areas.Dai said that the continuous consolidation and development of China-Cuba friendly relations is in the interests of the two nations and their people.China cherishes its friendly and cooperative ties with Cuba and would like to further deepen the traditional friendship, boost mutual beneficial cooperation and bring benefits to their people, Dai said.Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, vice president of the Council of Ministers of Cuba, said that the establishment of Cuba-China relations is of historic significance.The last fifty years have witnessed the close contacts of Cuba-China state leaders, increasing friendship of their people and expanding areas of pragmatic cooperation, Cabrisas said.Cabrisas added that Cuba is willing to continue advancing its friendly relations with China.

  

JERUSALEM, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Middle East envoy Wu Sike on Wednesday met with Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor in Jerusalem. They discussed Sino-Israeli relations and the current status of the Middle East peace process.China has consistently advocated that all concerned parties settle their differences through negotiations, and achieve comprehensive peace in this region, said Wu. The direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians, which started early September, is an important opportunity in the peace process, and has firm support from China, he added.Wu said that China is deeply concerned about the present stalemate in the talks. Chinese government calls for efforts from all parties to show flexibility and compromise on various issues, including settlement construction, so as to put the negotiation back on track, reach a final-status agreement, and realize peaceful coexistence between Israel and the Palestinians, he said.Meridor speaks highly of the active role China has played in promoting the Middle East peace process. Israel is now working to achieve the two-state solution, he said, adding that his government is willing to coordinate with other parties and find a solution to break the deadlock in direct talks.Israel is the second leg of Wu's Middle East tour, which will take him also to Palestinian territories, Egypt and Turkey.Israel and the Palestinians resumed direct negotiations on September 2 in the United States. However, the talks were halted when Israeli settlers restarted building in the West Bank after Sept. 26, when a 10-month settlement freeze ended. The Palestinian National Authority has made clear that it will enter the parley only if Israeli government extends the moratorium.
