BEIJING, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao and other Chinese leaders including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao on Tuesday visited an exhibition which pays tribute to victims of the May earthquake in Sichuan Province and the nation's concerted efforts to assist the disaster-stricken areas.     Photos and videos showing the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake, as well as items that were used to rescue victims drew attentions of the leaders.     They were also briefed on how the people from all walks of life had made donations and contributions to help the earthquake-stricken areas recover from the country's worst disaster in the past 30 years. The quake, which has left more than 80,000 dead or missing, was the deadliest and strongest tremor to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake.

Asahi Breweries Ltd., Japan's largest beer producer, is targeting the Chinese milk products market with an all-around manner with its new milk factory being under construction in China's Shandong Province, company officials told Xinhua Saturday.     A milk company, which has been building the factory, was established in Laiyang city, Shandong Province, in April. It's the first time for a large-scale Japanese corporation to enter the Chinese integrated milk business in the fields of both production and sales.     The company is owned 90 percent by Asahi. Business of the new company will involve the entire process from raising cows to marketing, while products will be sold to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Qingdao under Asahi's proprietary label, according to Asahi Breweries officials.     Price of the Asahi milk products will be about 50 percent to 100 percent higher than average local milk, and sales in the first year will be targeted at 1 ton per day, they said. LANZHOU, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Inspectors had found poisonous chemical in the Sanlu infant formula produced by one of its partner producers in northwest China's Gansu Province, an official said on Sunday.     Two out of the 12 samples randomly selected from the Sanlu milk powder produced by the Haoniu Dairy Co., Ltd. in Jiuquan City had tested positive for melamine, said Xian Hui, vice-governor of Gansu.     "The products of Haoniu have been sealed up," he said.     The test was conducted after the Sanlu Group, a leading Chinese dairy producer based in northern Hebei Province, admitted that it had found some of its baby milk powder products were contaminated with melamine, a chemical raw material strictly forbidden by the country to be used in food processing.     As of Saturday, a total of 432 babies throughout the nation have been sickened with kidney stones after drinking the contaminated milk powder.     Haoniu was founded in 2002 with the registered capital of 51 million yuan (7.45 million U.S. dollars). Its production was in line with the Sanlu standard and its products use the Sanlu trademark.     As of Saturday night, Gansu has reported 102 cases of infant kidney stone caused by the Sanlu milk powder. Two babies have died, Xian said.     The province has so far seized altogether 164,000 packs of Sanlu milk powder.
