An Arizona Department of Corrections officer is behind bars in the Pima County Jail Friday night.Elsa G. Ramos-Beltran, 27, is facing one count of promoting prison contraband. A Department of Corrections spokesperson said she's worked at the Tucson state prison complex since November 2015.The spokesperson said she was arrested Friday and resigned shortly thereafter. A six-year-old girl died Monday after she was hit in the head by a golf ball that her father hit, authorities said.The child was sitting in a parked golf cart on a path left of where her father was teeing off, according to Orem Police Lt. A New Mexico man has been charged with a felony after police say his cat tested positive for methamphetamines.Aaron Spaulding, 39, was initially arrested on June 4 and accused of battering his girlfriend and holding her against her will, the Las Cruces Police Department said in a statement.While police were responding to the incident at Spaulding's home, they learned he may have been neglecting his dog and a domestic shorthair cat, police said.Authorities said he strangled and force-fed drugs to the cat, and announced Tuesday that they'd upgraded his animal cruelty counts to a felony after tests found the cat had methamphetamines in its system.Information on his attorney was not immediately available.He was originally charged with false imprisonment, two counts of battery against a household member, interference with communication and two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, according to court records.Authorities said a veterinarian reported signs of neurological deficits in the cat, who was treated and adopted into another home. 1058
A Maui woman who went missing more than two weeks ago in Hawaii after a hike has been found alive.Amanda Eller, 35, vanished after she got injured and lost during the hike on Maui, according to a post on a Facebook page dedicated to finding her. She was reported missing May 9 after hiking at Makawao Forest Reserve on the island. Police found her car in the parking lot.Eller was lost somewhere above Twin Falls in between two waterfalls down a deep ravine in a creek bed.
