A drug used to treat type 2 diabetes and designed to lower glucose levels is being recalled because the manufacturer found it contained high levels of a cancer-causing agent.Marksans Pharma Limited is recalling metformin hydrochloride extended-release tablets because levels of NDMA were higher than the acceptable daily intake limit, according to a release from the Food and Drug Administration.The release says the company has not received any reports of adverse events related to this recall at this time.NDMA is classified as a probable human carcinogen, a substance that could cause cancer, based on results from laboratory tests. It’s a known environmental contaminant “found in water and foods, including meats, dairy products and vegetables,” according to the FDA.”These tablets are used in addition to diet and exercise to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. A growing list of companies in the United States have recently announced that they’ll start recognizing June 19, or Juneteenth, as a permanent company-wide holiday in support of racial diversity.Juneteenth is a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, with news that the Civil War was over, and that all remaining slaves in the state were free.That was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, which declared “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free,” according to the National Archives.Target is among the latest to make Juneteenth a company holiday. The chain made the announcement Monday, saying it wanted to give its employees the space to honor the holiday in their own way. All stores and distribution centers will remain open and hourly team members who work on June 19 will be paid time and a half, like with other holidays. “We recognize that the racial trauma the country is experiencing now is not new, but throughout recent weeks there has been a sense that this time is, and has to be, different,” said Brian Cornell, chairman and CEO at Target. “Juneteenth takes on additional significance in this moment. A heartbreaking social media post by the brother of James Eric Davis Jr., the man who police say shot his parents to death inside of his Central Michigan University dorm room Friday is asking for compassion and support for his younger brother.“To the media and opinionated people... Please don’t make a villain of my brother... that is NOT who he is... and despite the circumstances, he also lost a mother and father... And I LOVE him. Consider that!,” wrote Russell Matthew Davis on his Facebook page.“Never thought I’d have to post this type of post... but unfortunately the news is true. My mom and dad both rest from their life of labor and stress in a very tragic event,” he wrote.Davis Jr. has been charged with two counts of murder and a weapons charge in the shootings of his father, Eric Davis Sr., and mother, Diva Davis.Davis Jr.’s parents had come to the university Friday to pick up their son from the hospital and take him back to their hometown in Illinois for Spring Break.  Their son had acted so strangely the night before, that University police suspected he was on drugs and admitted him to a hospital in Mt. A hazmat situation has been confirmed at Merrol Magnet High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee.An official said at least 17 people were triaged at the scene Wednesday morning, and multiple patients, including a teacher and high school students, were taken to area hospitals. Some of those were being treated in Hendersonville, while others were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.The situation was described as an incident in a science class. The school was evacuated, and the students were relocated following the incident.The injuries were described as possible chemical burns; however, exact details on the injuries had not yet been released.The building is split between a middle school/high school and an elementary school. School was dismissed as a precaution at 10:15 a.m. for the middle and high schools. Elementary students were also released. A command center has been set up near campus for parents to pick up their children.Authorities said they have been airing out the school to make sure no further incidents take place. The fire department will investigate inside the building and will be responsible for giving the all clear at the scene. 1190

A man is hospitalized after a flight heading to Tulsa, Okla. was diverted to Phoenix's Sky Harbor International Airport due to an odor on-board.A Frontier Airlines flight that took off from San Diego had to land in Phoenix due to the odor, fire officials said.The plane landed without incident and most passengers were able to de-board from the plane, a Phoenix fire spokesman said. Seventeen people were evaluated as a precaution after an "odor came through the plane and was then gone," a fire spokesman said. A 62-year-old man was taken to the hospital.The cause of the odor is being investigated by Frontier Airlines. 639
