(KGTV) — University City neighbors are concerned with the F-35 coming to MCAS Miramar, saying it will be noisier and less safe.Tuesday night, a post on Nextdoor lit up talking about a fighter jet buzzing homes."When I hear the noise, I just think this is the sound of freedom. This is all about the sound of freedom, but I just also want to hear about safety and I'm not hearing the word safety," neighbor Don Hotz said.He's spoken with 10News before, concerned about flight paths Marines take. Several people have been emailing the base since September 2018, creating two binders full of papers. One concern points to a recent Environmental Impact Report draft by the Air Force, suggesting the noise from the F-35 could make neighborhoods in Idaho uninhabitable.Captain Matthew Gregory, MCAS Miramar director of communications, says the document remains unapproved and un-finalized. In Miramar, they've conducted several studies on noise and environmental impact, ensuring it is safe to bring the jets near the surrounding neighborhoods."On take off the F-35 is 2 decibels louder than the F/A-18 however when they're coming in to land, or in their normal flight, an F-35 is 10 or 11 decibels quieter so that's going to help in the noise reduction of the base," Gregory said. He added, over the next 10 years as the F-35 phases out F/A-18s and AV-8B Harriers, the base will get slightly quieter."The engine noise itself has a higher pitch, we're going to notice it a lot more even if it's quieter," Gregory said. He explained the higher pitch is due to a single technologically advanced engine.Neighbors are concerned a single engine plane is more dangerous. Gregory said there's nothing to worry about."It can be more reliable, it's going to cut down on maintenance costs because you're working on one engine instead of two engines. It's going to have increased range and potentially speed because it's lighter overall," he said.Gregory adds the base runs about a third as many aircraft a year compared to when the Navy operated the base. 2063

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The National Museum of African American Music is finally set to open next year.The grand opening was delayed this summer due to several pandemic setbacks, but a new date has been set for January 18, which is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Museum President and CEO Henry Hicks says it's going to be a very special day as NMAAM has been in the works for 22 years. Hicks says museum leaders were excited to open in the summer of this year, but the pandemic made it tough. Construction material was delayed, and they had to implement social distancing requirements for crews working.There are still some finishing touches being made on the museum but overall it’s ready for Nashvillians and tourists alike. Hicks says the museum will be a place that connects all generations and all walks of life through music.“Nashville is Music City and that really got its start with the Fisk Jubilee Singers. It evolved through an era of R&B and jazz being very prominent in the city and of course country music and I think the city has a job of embracing that country or Music City heritage," said Hicks. "This museum just really builds upon that.”NMAAM members will be the first ones to get access, but the following weekend, it will open to the general public. (KGTV) - Vietnam War veterans are being honored at the 2017 Miramar Air Show.One of the most special tributes will be the Mobile Vietnam Memorial Wall, cared for by Point Man Antelope Valley (PMAV), a veterans outreach organization that ministers to veterans of all wars.It's a half-scale size tribute monument of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. There are 58,318 names on it of people who lost their lives in the war.People can visit the wall starting Friday and throughout the weekend. 523

NAPLES, Fla. - Two people were killed after falling 70 feet when an elevator collapsed in Naples, Florida on Wednesday. Two construction workers were standing on a lift at Club Brittany of Park Shore, the Naples Fire Department said. They working on an outside elevator when the lift the construction workers were on collapsed and dropped 70 feet, they said. It has been confirmed both workers are dead. The elevator is attached to the side of the building and is typically used during renovations."This would be used after the building is completed, probably windows, railings, repairs and stucco," said David Mola, a contractor who lives near the accident.Mola says accidents involving these elevators are extremely rare.  Construction on condominiums along Gulfshore Boulevard have ramped up since season has ended."They're usually restricted, they usually have 6 months from now to late October to finish," said Mola.Officials from OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration arrived at the scene to investigate.The identity of the victims have not been released. 1107
