When Flynn was charged, the special counsel's office described how he had lied about passing messages from members of the Trump campaign to then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and back again. Those phone calls were about easing sanctions on Russia and influencing foreign governments' votes on a United Nations resolution about Israeli settlements.Specifically, Flynn called senior Trump transition team members at Mar-a-Lago in Florida three times in late December 2016 to discuss conversations he was having with Kislyak about sanctions. He then relayed his conversation with Kislyak to transition adviser KT McFarland.Separately, according to CNN reporting and his plea documents, Kushner directed Flynn to contact foreign officials before Trump took office about the UN vote on settlements.Flynn also pleaded guilty to lying on his foreign lobbying registrations about his work on a lobbying project for Turkey. His ties to the Russia probe could reach much further than prosecutors revealed a year ago.The former national security adviser was at the center of what's believed to be an investigation into whether Trump obstructed justice. Flynn was fired in the early days of the administration after then-acting Attorney General Sally Yates raised with West Wing officials that Flynn had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his communications on Russian sanctions. Around that same time, Trump asked then-FBI Director James Comey to let the Flynn investigation go, Comey has said.Flynn also served on the campaign, the transition team and in the administration at crucial moments that could still be under investigation related to Russian interference in American politics, making his contact with Kislyak even more significant.Flynn was the person who informed Trump that Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first to call him after Trump's inauguration, according to Comey. And the Wall Street Journal has outlined Flynn's alleged contacts with the late Peter W. Smith, who sought out the Russian hackers who obtained Clinton campaign emails. It is unclear if Mueller's office is still pursuing Smith's actions during the campaign.Flynn, a retired lieutenant general, is scheduled to be sentenced by federal Judge Emmet Sullivan on Dec. 18. Next week, his defense team will have a chance to tell its version of the story of his crimes. 2351

We're still trying to figure out what went wrong, county spokeswoman Tracy Defore said Wednesday morning before the county had finished reporting results.County election data suggests that voter turnout for Tuesday's mid- term was somewhere in the mid-60s, with 490,000 outstanding ballots left to be counted. Tuesday's turnout rate is the county's highest since the 2010 mid-term election, which resulted in the Republican Party capturing a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. County voter turnout reached 81.5 percent in the 2016 November election. 561

Two officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department were the first to arrive on the scene. They jumped into the canal’s murky water to rescue the trapped children from the almost fully submerged car.“With no thought to personal safety, officers immediately stripped their gear and attempted a daring rescue of these two children,” Chief Mike Brown said in a statement. “It was dark. The water was cold. But these officers did not hesitate to come to the aid and work to save lives. I am proud of them.”Justin Bates and the two-year-old were both taken to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition. Justin died of his injuries Monday morning. The younger child was in critical condition Sunday. Investigators believe speed was the ultimate factor in this crash. It is unlikely the driver will face any criminal charges. The speed limit for that section of road is 30 miles per hour. This story originally reported by John Franchi and David Wells on fox13now.com. 972

When is it?The main march will take place in Washington on Saturday, March 24. It will kick off at noon, when participants gather on Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks away from the Capitol.Hundreds of sister marches are also taking place across the country and around the world.Who's participating? The march in Washington is being led by #NeverAgain, which was started in the aftermath of the massacre by student survivors like Cameron Kasky and Emma Gonzalez. However, they're encouraging students, faculty, families and supporters from all over the country to join them. The student activists have also attracted significant star power to lend voices to the cause.Singer Jennifer Hudson said on Twitter she was "proud to stand with these brave students" and appeared to confirm she would join marchers in Washington.Marchers are also expecting other celebrities to attend the event. Pop stars Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato will attend the march in Washington, said David Hogg, a senior at Stoneman Douglas and event organizer. Representatives for the singers have not confirmed their plans to CNN.How's the march being funded?Organizers have raised money through donations made to the March for Our Lives Action Fund, according to the event's website. They've also raised more than million through a GoFundMe campaign. Half of that money will be used to cover expenses for the Washington march, the campaign says. The other half will go to the families of the Parkland shooting victims.Celebrities -- including Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney and Steven Spielberg -- have offered financial help to the march organizers. Each of them donated 0,000 to the event's fund last month. What if you can't attend the Washington march? If you want to march, but can't make it to the main event in Washington, chances are there's a sister march taking place in your city.According to the March for Our Lives website, there are more than 800 events across the United States and in cities overseas, including London, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo and Seoul. If there's not an event already planned for your city, March for Our Lives and Everytown for Gun Safety have provided this toolkit to help you organize your own march. What happens after the march?Advocates have called for another national school walkout on April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting. The Network for Public Education has also called for people to take their own action -- whether it be organizing walkouts, sit-ins or rallies -- to bring attention to school safety on that day, calling it the "National Day of Action Against Gun Violence in Schools."Beyond that, #NeverAgain and allies will likely turn their attention to the midterm elections in November to vote out politicians who aren't sympathetic to their cause."My message for the people in office is, you're either with us or against us," Stoneman Douglas survivor and student activist Kasky said last month. "We are losing our lives while the adults are playing around. And we have received endless support from your generation and we thank everybody for that immensely because we really appreciate it."But, he added, "We don't need you." 3188
