A Texas man is facing riot charges in Minnesota for allegedly firing a semiautomatic rifle into a Minneapolis police building during demonstrations following the death of George Floyd.A criminal complaint alleges Ivan Harrison Hunter, 26, is a member of the Boogaloo Bois, a group that espouses violent anti-government views, and that he drove to Minneapolis at the end of May with the intent of participating in a riot.U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald announced Hunter faces charges of traveling across state lines to participate in a riot.Floyd, who was Black, died on Memorial Day after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee on his neck for nearly eight minutes. The incident sparked protests against police racism and brutality across the country.Federal investigators have said he fired 13 rounds from a semiautomatic rifle into the Minneapolis Police Department's Third Precinct building while looters were inside. The building later burned. They say they have video of the incident and Hunter was identified from a screen grab of that video.According to the complaint, Hunter made statements on social media describing what he did in Minneapolis.Police in Austin, Texas, stopped a pickup truck on June 3 in which Hunter was a passenger for multiple traffic violations. Hunter had six loaded magazines for a semiautomatic rifle in a tactical vest he was wearing. Officers also found multiple firearms in the truck.Several days after the stop, federal investigators learned of Hunter’s online affiliation with Boogaloo Bois member Steven Carrillo.Federal prosecutors have charged Carrillo in the death of a federal protective officer in Oakland, California, during a protest over Floyd’s death on the same night Hunter allegedly opened fire in Minneapolis.MacDonald said Hunter made his initial court appearance Thursday in San Antonio, Texas. It’s unclear if he has an attorney. 1903

A turkey with all the trimmings as friends and family gather around to give thanks – that’s what we look forward to each year for Thanksgiving. But this time around won’t be the same, with COVID-19 at the forefront. With an uptick in COVID-19 cases nationwide, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has released updated guidelines. It starts with keeping the festivity small. A big event could lead to positive test results.Wear a face coveringThis is especially important if you invite guests over. The mask should cover your mouth, nose and fit snug. It should be worn at all times, except for when eating or drinking.Practice physical distancingIt's important to remember that you don't have to symptoms to spread the virus. Asymptomatic carriers can spread COVID-19, as we've seen in past super spreader events. Staying at least 6 feet apart will reduce your risk.Wash your handsAside from wearing a mask and social distancing, washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is vital. If you are unable to do so, you should have hand sanitizer with at last 60% alcohol nearby.Have a potluck ThanksgivingBringing your own food and utensils to the feast is another safe option. Not only would it reduce your chances of getting the virus, it also takes the pressure off the host.Plan an outdoor Thanksgiving feastHosting a dinner outside with a small group of people would allow for easy ventilation. If celebrating indoors, make sure to open windows to keep fresh flowing. Finally, there's no doubt that staying home is the safest bet. But if you plan to travel, check restrictions before you go. If you follow these guidelines, the safer you’ll be.This story was originally published by Stacy-Ann Gooden at WPIX. 1740

A new study done by researchers in Hungary and Mexico found that dogs aren't all that excited when it comes to seeing a person's face. After an MRI of 20 dogs, the researchers made their findings, and 30 people's brains were scanned while watching a series of videos that showed either the front or back of a dog or person's head. The finding, which was published Monday in the Journal of Neuroscience, was that dogs' brains aren't hardwired to focus on faces. They actually can't distinguish between the front or back of the head. The researchers said the dog's brains were more focused on whether they were seeing another dog or human, not a face. However, the humans' brains showed they were more focused on whether they saw a face. You can read the entire study below: Comparative brain imaging reveals analogous and divergent patterns of species- and face-sensitivity in huma... by Sarah Dewberry on Scribd 916

A study conducted by Stanford researchers found nearly 10% of those tested exhibited coronavirus antibodies. The study was published in the Lancet earlier this week. The study involved dialysis patients and randomly tested over 28,000 samples. The samples were taken in July as part of the patients’ treatment. The data found stark differences based on region. The northeast around 27% of patients with coronavirus antibodies, compared to 3.5% in the west. The study’s authors stressed that the study oversampled minorities. Minorities, the study found, were considerably more likely to have coronavirus antibodies than the rest of the population.“Uncertainty exists as to whether seroprevalence estimates in the dialysis population can be extrapolated to the US population more broadly,” the study reads. The study indicated that herd immunity is still far off, as estimates say at a minimum, 50% of the US population would need to be infected to reach that level. 969

A number of Microsoft users reported outages to Microsoft 365 on Monday, including the popular Outlook email service.Microsoft confirmed an outage with Microsoft 365 Monday evening. Microsoft said that a “recent change” appeared to be what caused the issue. But after Microsoft reversed the change, the company said earlier in the evening reversing the change was not successful. Around 9 p.m. ET, the company said that it was seeing improvement in service.“Users would be unable to access Outlook.com, Microsoft Teams including Teams Live Events, and Office.com,” Microsoft said. “Additionally, Power Platform and Dynamics365 properties are affected by this incident. Existing customer sessions are not impacted and any user who is logged in to an existing session would be able to continue their sessions.” 817
