RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) — Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash east of Ramona on Sunday.The collision happened on Littlepage Road and Old Julian Highway, in the Witch Creek area, just after 2 p.m. between a motorcycle and off-road side-by-side utility task vehicle, often called a UTV, according to CAL FIRE San Diego.The two people riding on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene. Four people riding in the UTV were uninjured.It wasn't immediately clear how the crash happened.10News is monitoring this breaking news. City News Service contributed to this report. 589

Prince Andrew's legal team has told CNN that they will not comment on the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell, a day after an acting U.S. Attorney urged him to come forward with information about the case.On Thursday, Maxwell was charged with four counts relating to her alleged involvement in recruiting and trafficking underage girls for Epstein and two counts of perjury. Prince Andrew also appears in a photograph with Maxwell and a girl who has since claimed Prince Andrew and Epstein abused her.The Duke of York has strongly denied any wrongdoing in his connection to the case.Sources also told CNN that Prince Andrew's legal team says it's "bewildered" and claimed the team has communicated with the Justice Department twice in the last month. Wildes did not explain how they got those green cards, raising the prospect they were sponsored by Melania Trump or another family member based on what Trump has called "chain migration" or family-based migration.There are only a handful of ways that immigrants to the US can obtain green cards, and the largest share of them each year are given out based on familial connections. A smaller number go to immigrants based on their employment, and other categories include refugees and other special cases. Advocates for restricting legal immigration have pointed to the imbalance in favor of family connections as evidence of the need for reform, calling for a "merit-based" system that would choose immigrants based on need in the US.The US allows a number of ways for US citizens and legal permanent residents to sponsor family members to come to the US permanently, including categories for parents, adult siblings and adult children, married and unmarried.Trump and his congressional allies have fought to slash that dramatically, limiting sponsorship to spouses and minor children, including dropping the threshold for minor children from 21 to 18. Experts estimate that could cut overall immigration to the US by 40% to 50%, if those green cards are not reallocated to another category. Trump has advocated a "merit-based" system, but has not proposed any method of admitting immigrants to the US to replace those categories.Viktor and Amalija Knavs, 73 and 71 years old, respectively, are retired, and they maintain regular contact with the Trump family, often traveling with the first family on trips to Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster, New Jersey. 2647

  

Public transit across the country has seen a roller coaster of ridership since the pandemic first hit. Now, it looks to the future and the hope that riders return."A lot of medical workers ride transit every day, people who work in distribution centers, grocery stores, these are people who keep cities running, and we really need transit to carry these workers through the depths of this pandemic," said Ben Fried of Transit Center, a non-profit that advocates for better public transportation in American cities.Fried says public transit nationwide has seen fewer riders than normal ever since stay-at-home orders were first enacted."We have seen transit climb back a little bit in terms of ridership. At the peak, it was down 90-95%. Now, depending on the system, it's typically down about 75% of normal rates," Fried said."(We've seen) a significant decrease. We normally carry 400,000 riders a day. We saw that drop to 100,000 early on," said Terry White, the Interim General Manager of King County Metro in Seattle.White said King County had to cut unused bus routes and then add service to the southern region of the county, which still saw a high number of passengers during the height of the pandemic."(We) almost didn't miss a beat in terms of the ridership coming out of that area," White said. "So, we assume there are a lot of folks in those areas that have to get to these essential services, food, healthcare, frontline jobs you can't do from home."While public transportation departments across the country reorganize their transit routes and implement new safety, cleaning and social distancing efforts on buses and subway cars, they're concerned about how the future of public transit will look. Fried hopes more people realize public transportation is still safe during the pandemic.Fried pointed to New York City as an example."Transit ridership has really increased a lot since the depths of the pandemic," Fried said. "We're not back to normal by any means, but as transit ridership has increased, we have not seen a spike in COVID cases. So, that's one indication transit may be safer than people think it is."Still, the overall decline in ridership isn't good for public transportation agencies' bottom lines."Transit agencies depend on revenue from a variety of sources," Fried said. "It's a mix of fare revenue, dedicated taxes, so like a local sales tax, a percentage of which will go to transit, and state and local government support and all three of these are getting hammered various degrees from COVID."In Seattle, King County Metro depends on local sales tax and money made from bus and subway fares to keep them going."Really, our outlook for the next 10 years in this COVID pandemic situation has us in a situation where we will have to make up probably about billion over the next ten-year period," White said.Recently, King County Metro laid off 200 part-time employees while also offering early retirement incentives to some full-time workers, despite receiving a good chunk of money from the CARES Act. Fried is advocating for more federal help to keep public transit moving.As the pandemic moves forward, Fried hopes passengers start to get comfortable with using public transportation again."I think the number one thing to realize is that our collective health and safety is dependent on people wearing masks," he said. "It's true in shared space, and it's true in transit."Fried hopes ridership in the U.S. can get back to normal levels soon, but King County Metro doesn't think that will happen anytime soon. 3563

  

Residents and businesses near a dam in North Carolina appeared to have dodged potential disaster Wednesday after an emergency at the location was called off.Earlier, heavy rains and a landslide in the western North Carolina mountains "compromised the integrity" of Lake Tahoma dam and triggered urgent calls for mandatory evacuations.Emergency officials said the dam was "at risk of imminent failure" and the weather service extended a flash flood warning for central McDowell County until 12:30 p.m.The National Weather Service cited reports early Wednesday from McDowell County emergency management officials that "water is spilling around the sides of Lake Tahoma dam. Evacuations ongoing south of the dam."But later, McDowell County emergency officials said Lake Tahoma had been inspected and deemed safe and a mandatory evacuation was halted. "The emergency at Lake Tahoma has been canceled. The evacuation order is no longer in effect. The engineer has performed a safety inspection and determined that the evacuation order is no longer needed," according to a statement on the McDowell County 911/Emergency Management Facebook page. 1147
