(KGTV) — Legoland California's massive "Star Wars" section of the park's Miniland area will depart for a galaxy far, far away next year.The park said the area will make way for something new eventually, but is tight-lipped on what guests can expect to take the attraction's place. CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) — An East County resident happened upon a massive surprise Friday morning.A wayward tortoise was found by the resident on Buckman Springs Rd. in Campo Friday. A San Diego County Department of Animal Serivces officer responded to the report but immediately realized he would not be able to lift the animal on his own.A Cal Fire crew arrived to help get the tortoise out of the yard, coaxing it onto a stretcher and then lifting the heavy reptile into an Animal Services vehicle.The tortoise was then taken to the department's Bonita shelter.While it's unclear how the massive animal ended up in the East County yard, Animal Services said someone called soon after the catch to report it may have been their tortoise, aptly named "Tank." (CNS) -- Police Friday announced the arrest of a 54-year-old Poway man on suspicion of killing a young woman in Carlsbad 33 years ago.James Charles Kingery was arrested Wednesday in connection with the sexual assault and murder of 26-year-old Julia Hernandez-Santiago, whose body was found on Oct. 10, 1987, on an ivy-covered embankment in the 2100 block of Alga Road, west of Alicante Road, Carlsbad police spokesman Jodee Reyes said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation."Investigators were able to recover several pieces of key evidence at the time; however, a suspect was never identified," Reyes said.Over the next three decades, detectives continued to follow leads and technology eventually helped reveal new investigative angles to probe.Last March, San Diego County sheriff's deputies arrested a man on narcotics and weapons violations and took a DNA sample from him, as required by law based on his alleged offenses, Reyes said. Last May, the sheriff's crime lab notified Carlsbad police that the DNA samples from the 1987 murder case were a match for Kingery.Kingery was booked into the San Diego Central jail around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on suspicion of murder, according to jail records. He was being held without bail pending his arraignment, scheduled for July 31.A motive for the killing has not been disclosed. 1428

(CNS) -- Three wildfires continued burning across open terrain on the grounds of Camp Pendleton Wednesday, sending plumes of smoke over northern San Diego County but posing no threats to military or civilian structures.The flames began spreading through training areas toward the center of the Marine Corps base on Monday.As of Wednesday afternoon, base officials said one of the fires, dubbed the Wood Fire, has burned 7,000 acres and is 20 percent contained.A second fire, called the India Fire, has burned 1,100 acres and is 20 percent contained.A third fire named the Range Fire is burning in the Range 706 Yankee impact area and has charred 500 acres, according to base officials.Base officials said the fires are expected to produce smoke through the remainder of the day, and the fires are not posing a threat on or off the base.Military firefighters have been aided by Cal Fire ground and airborne crews in their effort to corral the blazes.Officials have disclosed no cause for the fires. CAMPO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A homeowner was injured in a house fire that tore through a home in Campo Thursday afternoon. Cal Fire says the man received burns on his feet and shoulder. The injuries are considered minor. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started around 5 p.m. on the 33000 block of Highway 94. Video from Sky10 shows the home completely engulfed in flames. The fire in rural Campo quickly spread to nearby brush as it burned through the home, leaving nothing by the fireplace standing. Cal Fire says the fire burned less than half an acre. At this time, it’s unclear what started the fire. 609
