A white man who allegedly killed two people at a Kroger grocery store in Kentucky tried to enter a predominantly black church nearby minutes before the fatal shooting, police said.The two people killed Wednesday -- Maurice Stallard and Vickie Jones -- were shot in the grocery store and the parking lot, respectively. (KGTV) -- A man has died following a deputy-involved shooting in Alpine Monday afternoon.  The man's family later identified him as Daniel Ayala. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies shot Ayala at an apartment complex on the 2600 block of Alpine Boulevard around 3 p.m. during a confrontation.No deputies were injured, sheriff's officials said.According to Lt. Michael Blevins, dispatchers had received several 911 calls reporting a man yelling in the apartment complex. Blevins said at one point he made statements threatening to kill people. A witness told 10News, Ayala had pounded on his door, yelling incoherently.When deputies arrived they say they went up to Ayala's apartment."He exited the apartment with a knife in his hand and advanced towards the deputies," said Lt. Blevins.That's when the deputies opened fire. Blevins said more than one deputy fired a gun, though he said they were still investigating exactly who discharged their weapon and how many shots were fired. 1064

ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A semi-truck hauling frozen chicken veered off Interstate 8 and overturned, scattering boxes of the poultry product onto the ground.The crash happened at around 5 a.m. Thursday off westbound Interstate near East Victoria Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.The cause of the crash is unclear, but witnesses and the CHP said the truck flipped onto its side and came dangerously close to a fence of a nearby home.Some witnesses said they saw the truck’s driver staggering in the lanes just after the wreck. Adnan Syed, the subject of the groundbreaking true crime podcast Serial, has been granted to a new trial by the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, according to the Associated Press.In 2016, a Baltimore City Circuit Court vacated Syed's conviction in the murder of Hae Min Lee. The state then appealed the ruling. According to the Baltimore Sun, the state can still appeal to the Maryland Court of Appeals. It's unclear if the state will choose to do so.Syed was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee in 2000.
