BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Premium of China's insurance companies hit 1.02 trillion yuan (149.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the first 11 months of this year, up 11.65 percent from a year earlier, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission Thursday.     The year would be the first year that China's insurance premiums exceeded 1 trillion yuan, data from the commission showed.     From January to November, premium of property insurance rose 22.28 percent year on year to 264.02 billion yuan, and that of life insurance was 757.66 billion yuan, an annual increase of 8.37percent.     The commission said the country's insurance firms were expected to eye combined profits at 46.09 billion yuan in the first 11 months, an increase of 57.45 billion yuan over the same period of last year.     Profits of the country's insurers nationwide was about 26.1 billion yuan in the first half, up 98 percent, the commission said in July.

The bilateral ties are embracing fresh opportunities of development and a main purpose of his visit is to discuss with the Japanese side how to further improve the relations.     Yang said the two countries should maintain high-level mutual visits and economic dialogues to deepen cooperation. On issues where divergences still remain, the two countries should seek solutions on the basis of dialogue and consultation.     Yang also suggested Japan and China should work to ensure the peace and stability of East Asia, which includes measures to bring Democratic People's Republic of Korea back to six-party talks and denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. They also discussed issues such as climate change.     Okada also believed Japan and China should increase communication in all areas to enhance the mutually beneficial bilateral ties.     Yang also met with Speaker of the House of Representatives Takahiro Yokomichi and President of the House of Councillors Satsuki Eda on Thursday.     Yang told the Speakers of Lower and Upper Houses that the Shanghai Expo, which is to open next May, is a good channel of friendly communication between China and the rest of the world. China appreciated the assistance provided by the Japanese Diet to the preparation of the Expo and will continue to work with Japan to enhance cultural and personnel communication between the two countries.     The Japanese Speakers of the Diet said China and Japan should not only closely cooperate on bilateral issues, but also work together to settle regional, international and global issues. They emphasized communication between the legislation bodies are important and the Japanese Diet will exert every effort to boost bilateral ties. They also said Japan is actively preparing for the participation of Shanghai Expo and believed the Expo will be a success.     Chinese Ambassador to Japan Cui Tiankai was present during the meetings.     Yang's four-day visit to Japan, which started here Thursday, is the first since the country saw a change of government in September.

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Profits of China's state-owned enterprises (SOEs) administered by the central government more than doubled in October from a year ago after months of declines, a senior official said here on Friday.     The 132 central SOEs reaped a profit of 79.5 billion yuan (11.64 billion U.S. dollars) in October, up 151 percent year on year, said Huang Shuhe, deputy director of the State-owed Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) at the 2009 Annual CEO Forum.     In October, revenues surged by 22 percent from a year ago to nearly 1.16 trillion yuan, Huang said.     Their profits during Jan-Oct was 633.8 billion yuan, while revenues amounted to 9.83 trillion yuan during the same period.     Huang also noted 24 central SOEs had entered the rank of Fortune 500 companies.     "China's companies still face difficulties and great challenges due to roaring raw material prices, huge environmental pressure and rampant protectionism triggered by the financial crisis," he said.     He said the companies should further enhance independent innovation, improve corporate governance and accelerate the pace of "go global" to compete with foreign brands.

  

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, held talks here Wednesday afternoon with Kim Hyong-o, speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK).     Wu spoke highly of Sino-ROK relations and the positive role that the two legislatures have played in enhancing bilateral relations.     China attaches importance to its relationship with the ROK and both countries are of great influence in the region, he said, noting that development of the bilateral relations accord with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is conducive to the regional peace, stability and development. JINGGANGSHAN, Jiangxi, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official has called on the country's police and other law enforcement organs to improve their capabilities to better serve the people and rely on the people to safeguard social harmony and stability. Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remark at a meeting attended by police chiefs during his visit to Jinggangshan, where late Chairman Mao Zedong and other revolutionists established the CPC's first rural revolutionary base in 1927, in east China's Jiangxi Province.     Law enforcement departments and police should handle public's complaints with earnest attitude, improve their credibility in law enforcement and rely on the masses of people to safeguard social harmony and stability, said Zhou, who also heads the CPC Central Political and Legislative Affairs Committee.     He also called on the police officials to be innovative in their work and to strengthen the building of grassroots police organs.     Zhou visited the Jinggangshan martyrs' memorial park to pay respect to more than 48,000 revolutionary martyrs buried there, late Chairman Mao's former residence and other revolutionary sites on Tuesday.     Meng Jianzhu, Minister of Public Security who also attended the meeting, asked police departments at all levels to explore new methods for safeguarding national security and social stability.
