MILWAUKEE, Wis. – When Dawn Nadboralski lost her father, a sharpshooter with the US Army, it broke her heart. “I’m a daddy’s girl,” she said. “I’m the only child, so when he passed, it hit me really hard.” To help herself heal, Nadboralski went into her dad’s garage and started using his tools – turning old wooden pallets into American flags. “It takes probably about an hour and a half and I paint them by hand,” she said. “I feel like in a way, it’s honoring my father.” And at the same time, it’s honoring the lives of men that fought for this country. Nadboralski sells the flags and donates that money to Forest Home Cemetery to buy headstones for Civil War soldiers who have unmarked graves. “We don’t leave anyone behind even if they’re gone,” said Thomas Ludka, a military veteran. Ludka and Maraget Berres work to find unmarked graves. The headstones are free but cost 5 to install – money they say is well worth it. “A man like him helped destroy slavery.” Ludka said while pointing out a gravesite of a Civil War soldier. “His life meant something. His service meant something. He should not be forgotten.” So far, Nadboralski has sold 33 flags – raising enough money to buy 13 headstones. “I feel like this is just a small thing I can do to give back,” she said. Nearly a year after walking off the job, teachers in West Virginia are going on strike again.Last year, teachers in the state went on strike for nine school days, fighting for higher pay. This year, they’re protesting an education reform bill that would bring charter schools to the state and create education savings accounts parents could use for homeschooling, private schools and other educational costs.Unions are calling it retaliation. "We are taking action,” said Fred Albert, with the West Virginia American Federation of Teachers. “We are left with no other choice.”Tuesday’s strike is just the latest of several strikes nationwide in recent months. Teachers in Denver, Colorado recently went on strike for three days. In Los Angeles, 30,000 teachers went on strike for six days. Teachers in Oakland are set to strike Thursday. At the heart of the strikes are better school funding and higher pay. Experts say the strikes will likely continue. “Once you have educators seeing that when they come together in collective action and they raise their voices together, they're looking around and they're seeing it's not just them,” says Becky Pringle, vice president of the National Education Association. "So it was on our receipt and we did pay for it."Another day, she was billed for Red Bull energy drink."Just recently, on the 8th, a Red Bull was added at the end of the shopping cart," she said. "I guess they were thirsty and needed energy and decided to add on a Red Bull."She wonders how many others she's missed.Angel is executive director of a collection of group homes for the disabled, and orders groceries for them several times a week.It's those disabled clients, she says, who are being ripped off.Complaints increase as orders surgeA recent report in USA Today claims a growing number of customers accuse Instacart shoppers of stealing their groceries.Instacart's Facebook page has a number of complaints of similar mystery charges.It was pretty much inevitable that during a pandemic, with so many shoppers now ordering online and so many more people having to be hired to fulfill those orders, that we would see an increase in complaints.Instacart says orders have surged 300% this year, and it has hired tens of thousands of new shoppers to handle the load.It says each are thoroughly checked out before being hired, but says occasional errors and problems do happen.
