A second test Friday showed the water was safe.RELATED COVERAGE:-- Poway could face fines as water boil advisory continues-- Poway boil water advisory continues despite positive tests-- Poway Unified School District sends parents action plan after water boil advisory issuedPoway has been under a boil water advisory since Nov. 30 after numerous residents reported brownish water coming out of faucets the day before. The city’s Public Works Department said it secured the stormwater outlet on Dec. 1 to eliminate any future backflow. The affected section of Clearwell Reservoir was disinfected and refilled earlier this week, the city said. The water issue had a negative impact on businesses, especially some Poway restaurants which had to shut down. The order also forced may residents and businesses to rely on bottled water, which the city provided daily. As residents and businesses return to normal, the city reminded everyone to flush water pipes by running water until its clear, do not use water if it is discolored, replace any water filters and flush water dispensers, and for businesses to sanitize all machines they may utilize tap water and all fixtures, sinks, dishes and utensils.Businesses that have any concerns can also call the Department of Environmental Health at 858-565-5255. 1669

PORTLAND, Ore. — The mayors of six U.S. cities are appealing to Congress to make it illegal for the U.S. government to deploy militarized agents to cities that don’t want them. The mayors of Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Chicago; Kansas City; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Washington wrote to leaders of the U.S. House and Senate pushing for limits on agent deployments. The move came Monday as a top official said federal militarized officers would remain in Portland until attacks on the U.S. courthouse cease. Early Monday, U.S. agents repeatedly fired what appeared to be tear gas, flash bangs and pepper balls at protesters.Federal agents have been patrolling Portland over a little over a week. They were sent to the city by the Department of Homeland Security as part of President Donald Trump's crackdown on the defacement of federal property, statues and monuments.Protests have taken place nightly in Portland for 60 straight days, since the death of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis. While the vast majority of those demonstrating have been peaceful, a federal courthouse has been defaced with graffiti, some protesters have thrown fireworks and other projectiles toward officers and others have attempted to breach fencing surrounding the courthouse.Federal agents have responded by using tear gas, pepper balls and the use of batons to disperse protesters on several occasions. They've also grabbed protesters off the streets and detained them in unmarked cars.Protests have escalated in intensity since federal agents have arrived in the city, which has forced Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler to call for their removal. 1677

President Donald Trump again broke with his top public health experts Monday and said that he believed that a COVID-19 vaccine would be approved "by the end of October."Trump made the statement during an interview on "Fox & Friends" Monday morning. When asked which vaccine would be approved first, Trump noted that Pfizer's vaccine candidate was doing "very well," and also listed several other candidates, including those made by Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and AstraZeneca.Top health officials in the Trump administration have said that it likely won't be until the end of the year that a vaccine will be approved for Emergency Use Authorization. Earlier this month, Dr. Anthony Fauci of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that vaccine authorization won't come until after election day because trials likely won't be filled until the end of September, and the leading candidates require two shots that need to be taken at least 28 days apart.Earlier this month, several large drugmakers signed a open letter that promised that the companies would not bow to political pressure to approve a vaccine before it was scientifically proven to be safe and effective.Last week, the federal government released a "playbook" for the roll-out of a COVID-19 vaccine, which noted that essential workers, health care professionals and "vulnerable groups" would receive the vaccine first. Fauci has warned that Americans likely won't return to "normality" until the middle of 2021.The vaccination campaign faces an uphill battle from a skeptical public. An AP poll taken in May found only about half of those polled said they would get a COVID-19 vaccine. Experts say at least 70% of Americans need to be vaccinated or have immunity from a previous contraction in order to protect the country from the virus. 1839
