SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After thousands of Art Institute of California - San Diego students were let down by the institute they trusted, some faculty members are left wondering if they'll receive their final paychecks.Student worker Stefon Harris was waiting for a check on Friday that never came. “Just been checking and checking and checking and it never showed up, it never showed up. I only have in my account," said Harris. The for-profit college abruptly shut down on March 8. The school's operator, the for-profit Argosy University, shut down the campus after court documents alleged it misused millions of dollars in federal funds.“it was shell-shocking, you don’t plan for stuff like that," said Harris. On Monday Harris received a letter from the court-appointed receiver for Dream Center Education Holdings (DCEH), the parent company of the Art Institute. The letter says that given the financial circumstances funds have not been secured and pay is delayed. The letter goes on to say they are doing everything they can to expedite payment for funds owed. 1073

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A team led by Scripps Research has yielded positive results in a new research study involving antibodies.Researchers say they've worked to isolate the most potent antibodies in the blood of recovered COVID-19 patients. The study was published in "Science."Dennis Burton, the study's co-author, says once they identified the most potent antibodies, they cloned them."You clone the really good ones, and then you make lots and lots of them in production facilities and then use as a standard to protect and-or treat Covid-19," Burton said.They've tested the cloned antibodies, or monoclonal antibodies, on animals, and they've yielded positive results. They hope to conduct human testing early next year.When asked if it is similar to antibody treatments from convalescent plasma donations, Burton says what they're making is more efficient and can be produced for masses.He says the monoclonal antibodies could be used as a preventive measure given to uninfected but at-risk people before a vaccine is available, and could even be useful for people that may not respond well to a vaccine.He also says the monoclonal antibodies could be used to design better vaccines by giving researchers a better idea of which antibodies are most effective. 1268

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A water line break forced Hard Rock Hotel guests out of their rooms Sunday night.San Diego Fire officials said that about 2 inches of water from the 7th floor leaked down to the 5th and 6th floors beginning around 10 p.m. at the hotel on 5th Avenue. The water was shut off shortly after 11 p.m.Some guests had to leave their rooms because of the flooding. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A teen is fighting for his life at Sharp Memorial Hospital after he was hit by a Jeep while riding his bike in Clairemont.According to CHP officers, the accident happened just before 9 p.m. on Saturday. Officers say a Jeep was getting onto the freeway at the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard on-ramp to the 805-N when he hit the teen riding his bike. The driver says he never saw the teen until it was too late. According to officers, the teen was not in a designated cross walk, but near it. The driver of the Jeep stayed on scene, his passenger jumped out to perform CPR while paramedics arrived.The teen suffered life threatening injuries. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash 712

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Adapting to new restrictions is now routine for businesses in the age of coronavirus. The latest set of rules handed down by Governor Newsom is not sitting well with salon owner Shanelle Cedeno.“Now it just feels like a target," Cedeno says.As hospitals become overwhelmed with surging cases, ICU capacity is the state’s newest metric for tightening restrictions.RELATED: Gov.
