"This joint effort is a great example of how our Consumer Protection Unit works to protect people from unfair business practices in the marketplace and ensure that California's consumer protection laws are followed."The judgment requires Jdate, Christian Mingle, and all of Spark's other dating sites to have full transparency with consumers about automatically renewing memberships.The company now must:-- clearly and conspicuously disclose the renewal terms;-- get consumers' consent, through a separate check box (or similar mechanism) that does not include other terms and conditions;-- send a clear summary of the renewal terms after consumers pay; and-- allow consumers to cancel easily.Spark Networks cooperated with the task force to reach the resolution.According to prosecutors, online "subscriptions" and other automatically recurring charges have proliferated in the United States in recent years. Some renewals come after "free trials," where consumers need to cancel in time to avoid the charges.Federal and state law requires businesses to make auto-renewals clear to consumers, and to get their "express, affirmative consent" before collecting any money. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System and North County Transit District will host the region's third "Free Ride Day" Tuesday, making all fixed-route bus and rail services free for everyone to use throughout San Diego County, ensuring residents are able to reach their polling place and exercise their right to vote."Free Ride Day this year has a different purpose than in past years," said Nathan Fletcher, MTS Board Chair and San Diego County Supervisor. "We are holding it on one of the most important days for our country -- Election Day. We want San Diego residents to have every opportunity to participate in our democracy. Free transit rides all day long will help do just that."Free rides will be honored on all MTS and NCTD fixed-routes services including buses, the trolley, Sprinter and Coaster. MTS and NCTD services will operate on a normal weekday schedule.Passengers will not need a Compass Card or valid fare for either system, but face coverings will continue to be required on board all MTS and NCTD vehicles and at transit facilities. All had underlying medical conditions.The county reported 6,974 tests Friday, 7% of which returned positive. The 14-day rolling average of positive tests is 6.1%. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Pride Live, the online pride parade and festival, kicked off a day-long event today featuring elected officials, community organizations and businesses.Because of the pandemic, organizers took the historic Pride Parade march through Hillcrest online -- sdpride.org/live/ -- and began at 10 a.m. with a slide show of photos from 46 years of the parade, which started in 1974. The San Diego Women's Chorus followed with a virtual singing of the national anthem. An interfaith blessing, with clergy from various denominations, gave their blessings.In 1994, the San Diego Women Motorcycle Riders first appeared to officially kick off the parade, which usually had about 350,000 participants and 200 pride floats, along with 400 volunteers.This year, about 12 motorcycles from the group took off from the site of the Hillcrest pride flag at University Avenue and Normal Street.
