The last few months of 2018 saw an uptick in domestic terror arrests compared to some other quarters in recent years, a senior FBI official said.Nearly 25 were arrested over the last three months of 2018, said the official, who did not provide more recent data.The domestic terror arrests include but are not limited to far right/white nationalists. The official did not provide an explanation for the increase in that quarter.The FBI has approximately 900 open domestic terror investigations, the official told CNN. These are separate from international terrorism investigations that, for example, involve plots related to ISIS and al Qaeda, including so-called "lone wolf attacks."Notably, there are not domestic terror statutes in the US that allow for specific domestic terror charges. Prosecutors use other violations — such as of weapons possession laws — to charge people accused of plotting domestic terror attacks. The once mighty brands of Sears and Kmart are continuing to slowly disappear as Sears announced on Thursday the closure of 96 additional stores. The 96 locations, which are a mixture of Kmart and Sears branded stores, are set to close by February. The closing locations will have going out of business sales starting on Dec. 2. The footprint of Sears and Kmart will further shrink by one third with this round of closures, leaving fewer than 200 total locations nationally between the two brands. This announcement comes less than a year after more than 200 Sears and Kmart locations closed. While other retailers in recent years, such as Toys 'R' Us and RadioShack have faded away, Sears' demise would mark the end of an industry titan. The company was at one time the nation's largest retailer, selling items as small as earrings, to as big as houses. The announcement does not impact the nearly 400 locations that operate as Sears Hometown or Sears Outlet locations, which feature appliances and electronics. The European Union has hit Google with another big antitrust fine, the third in a series of billion-dollar penalties the US tech giant has faced for hindering competition.The European Commission on Wednesday ordered Google to pay �1.5 billion (.7 billion) for abusing its dominant position in online search advertising."Google has cemented its dominance in online search adverts and shielded itself from competitive pressure by imposing anti-competitive contractual restrictions on third-party websites," Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said in a statement.The tech company has now been fined �8.2 billion (.3 billion) in total by Europe over the past three years.EU regulators have taken a much more robust approach to Big Tech companies than their US counterparts, especially when it comes to competition, data protection and tax issues.Google has already been fined in two previous EU antitrust cases.The Commission ordered the company to pay �4.34 billion (.9 billion) in July 2018 for unfairly pushing its apps on smartphone users and thwarting competitors.In 2017, it imposed a �2.4 billion (.7 billion) fine on Google for using its search engine to steer consumers to its own shopping platform.The company said in a blog post Tuesday that it was making further changes to its service based on "feedback" from the European Commission.It has started testing a new format that provides users with direct links to comparison shopping sites.
