(KGTV) -- At least three people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a multi-vehicle collision on a La Mesa-area freeway caused by a wrong-way driver.At around 4:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol received reports of a gray Honda According traveling the wrong way on northbound state Route 125 near Grossmont Boulevard.The CHP said the Accord collided with a Toyota SUV, disabling both vehicles. According to the CHP, the wrong-way driver ditched his damaged vehicle in the middle lanes and then left the scene on foot.Moments later, several other vehicles crashed into the Accord-Toyota wreckage.ABC 10News learned at least three people in the second crash were taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.The incident forced the closure of all northbound SR-125 lanes at Lemon Avenue at around 4:50 a.m. Lanes were expected to reopen by 6 a.m.A description of the wrong-way driver was not immediately available. 958

(KGTV) - Dozens of people lined up for hours, as Play it Again Sports reopened in La Mesa on Thursday morning.Alfredo Lopez was the first in line, hoping to buy new weights."It says they're really resilient. So I think that's definitely part of what La Mesa has," Lopez says.The store had been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. But it had to stay closed longer than expected after looters destroyed the store following protests in La Mesa on May 30.The protests were over police violence, but the angry mob that attacked the Play it Again Sports came long after the protests ended."I was not happy. I was upset that night, for sure," says owner Dan Buxton. "So much had been put into the store and for all it to be taken away at that moment, it hurt."Buxton says he had to replace the ceiling, the light fixtures, the flooring, windows, displays, and much of his inventory.But he says the community helped rebuild and showed its true colors."Clearly, the real La Mesa is what we saw after May 30 and we're proud to be part of it," says Buxton.As for the line that greeted him when he opened the store Thursday, Buxton simply said, "Thank you.""Just like the support we've been receiving for the past 7 weeks, it's the same thing," he says. LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — La Mesa Police Department released body camera footage on Wednesday showing the events that led up to an arrest video that surfaced last week.About 30 seconds of the video provide by police starts without any sound. LMPD Chief Walt Vasquez said the beginning of the video is muted because of the way the body camera is activated. (See the video above and below.)Raw footage of bodycam footage would be released for four officers involved in the arrest of Amaurie Johnson on May 27, according to La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis.Last week, video surfaced showing an argument between Johnson and an officer escalate at the Grossmont Trolley Station. The officer is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position onto a bench during the video. Eventually, Johnson is handcuffed and told he is being charged with assaulting an officer.Vasquez added that the officer involved in the video has been an officer for about three years. He added that while Johnson was initially stopped for smoking in a trolley area, he wasn't charged with that when he was arrested.Johnson also denied in a separate press conference after city officials spoke that he was smoking. (Press conference below.)“For that situation to escalate the way it did, and for the cop, you know, to stand firm in his beliefs that I should be detained or taken in with no prior evidence or reasoning, I think that should be seen by the people,” Johnson told Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin.He said he was waiting for his friend at the trolley stop, near a building where that friend lives. He added that the officer started questioning him and that he gave the officer the information that he wanted.Johnson adds that he didn't resist or assault anyone."I feel as though people that look like me, um, feel the same way I do and we're tired of it.
