CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- In cities all over the country, drag queens are reading to kids and soon they'll be holding story time at the Otay Ranch library in Chula Vista. "I thought it was like one of the best things ever I wish I had a drag queen story time when I was younger," said "Strawberry Corncakes", a local artist who isn't taking part in the upcoming event, but understands very well why performers like her are striking a chord with families and kids across the country. "We're characters, we're cartoon characters brought to life. Who walks around with green eyes and green lips?" Along with the popularity though has come controversy. Pastor Amado Huizar is a father of four and says he's heard the events aren't just about reading books. "Teaching more about drag queens and what that's about which tends to lead to adult entertainment and that's where I think it's inappropriate as a dad as a husband."But the performers themselves say that's just not true. "There's no hidden agenda, we're not teaching them how to be drag queens we're not teaching them how to do anything except love themselves and read," said Corncakes. Huizar is trying to get the city leaders to talk to him and others and postpone the event in the meantime. And while opponents admit the event is optional, they have an issue with it being held at a public library. "I don't have to go but that doesn't mean I have to keep away from it either," said Huizar. (KGTV) — Chula Vista Police have identified a woman who was found shot to death in a field earlier this month.Police said 23-year-old Christina Garcia was found on Aug. 5 at about 6:30 a.m. in a field near the 3100 block of Main Street. Children should ride in rear-facing car seats until they reach the height or weight limit for the seat, according to updated recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.This changes the academy's previous guidance, which said children should ride in rear-facing seats until at least age 2. The new recommendation eliminates the age-specific milestone to turn a child's car seat around.Car seat manufacturers are making seats that allow children to remain rear-facing until they reach 40 pounds, Dr. Benjamin Hoffman, lead author of the academy's updated guidelines, said in a statement."It's best to keep your child rear-facing as long as possible," Hoffman, chairman of the academy's Council on Injury, Violence and Poison, said in the statement. "This is still the safest way for children to ride."By using the proper car seat, the risk of death or serious injury is lowered by more than 70%, according to the academy. All children younger than 13 years should be in a vehicle's back seat, it said.Parents can find height and weight limits for a car seat in the instruction manual.Once children reach the height or weight limit and shift to a forward-facing seat, they should use safety seats with harnesses for as long as possible, often up to 65 pounds, the pediatricians' group said. (KGTV) -- Police are investigating two violent incidents that occurred at Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch Town Center in recent weeks.The Chula Vista Police Department is asking for the public’s help as they try to find the people suspected in a stabbing incident on Sept. 25 and an assault on Oct. 2 that happened at the mall on 2015 Birch Rd.In the Sept. 25 incident, at around 6 p.m., two people were approached by a group of four people, and then “three of the subjects began assaulting one of the victims,” police said.Police said one victim was stabbed in the back of the leg and had their backpack stolen. The other victim was not hurt, but one of the assailants took their cell phone.According to police, the incident was captured on video and shared on social media. The suspects in this case were described by police as Black male juveniles.In the Oct. 2 incident, a person was with friends at the mall when he was approached by about eight juveniles. Police said, “One of the suspects then punched the victim and a second suspect stole the victim’s Boston Red Sox baseball hat.
