SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family from Chula Vista is desperately looking for their 9-year-old loved one. Erik Ochoa was swept away by the current in Rosarito on Easter Sunday. One boy made it out of the current and ran to get an adult nearby. The third child washed ashore, lifeless, 25-minutes after going missing. Erik hasn't been seen since. The sisters have been looking for their brother since they heard about what happened. They've been going from Imperial Beach all the way down to Border Field State Park. The Mexican Navy is actively searching on the Mexican side. The U.S. Coast Guard broadcast a message to boaters telling them to be on the lookout. Erik was last seen wearing green shorts and a striped shirt. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A crucial part of the fight to end food insecurity depends on community donations. And the most significant impact often comes from a group of strangers that come together to donate, volunteer, and distribute. “I want to say the excess food we have is maybe 75 pounds to 100 pounds every couple of weeks,” said Adam Sapinoso. Sapinoso works for National Food Group, a wholesale food service distributor in San Diego. From time to time, his inventory exceeds his client's needs leaving him with additional food that he doesn’t need. That food is often tossed out. “It was just hard seeing that much food being thrown away, especially when you’re the one physically throwing it in the dumpster,” said Sapinoso. Looking for a solution, he turned to Feeding San Diego’s app called Meal Connect. This app connects restaurants and companies with Feeding San Diego volunteers. Those volunteers pick up excess food from companies and restaurants when it is most convenient for the company. Donate now to Month of a Million MealsThe volunteer then heads to one of Feeding San Diego’s distribution locations to drop off the donations. The food is then unpacked and sorted out and distributed to the community. One of those sites is Wesley Community Services Center in City Heights.“When we started, this program was upstairs with coffee and donuts. Now, eight years later, we are doing a million pounds a year, 1500 meals a month, and it’s just growing. 1470

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two pregnant women in San Diego County have been hospitalized due to flu complications, the county's Health and Human Services Agency announced Wednesday. A 40-year-old woman spent 16 days in the intensive care unit and a 30-year-old woman spent nine days in the ICU. Both women were unvaccinated, in their third trimesters and contracted influenza A. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pregnant women have some of the highest risk of developing flu complications if they remain unvaccinated. “That is why they're one of the groups for which vaccination isextremely important," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer. "Changes in the immune system, heart and lungs during pregnancy make pregnant women (and women up to two weeks after delivery) more susceptible to severe illness from the flu, which could require hospitalization." Officials from the CDC and the Health and Human Services Agency suggest that pregnant women receive the flu vaccine at any point in their pregnancy. However, the nasal spray flu vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women. Flu cases in the county ticked up during the week of Dec. 9-15, according to the county's weekly influenza report. Confirmed flu cases totaled 290 compared to 199 the previous week. The county's overall total of confirmed flu cases is at 940, well behind the 1,641 cases at this time last flu season. Everyone 6 months or older is recommended to get the flu vaccine each year. In addition to pregnant women, health officials strongly advise the vaccination for people with a heightened risk of serious flu complications, like people older than 65 and people with chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes. County residents can get vaccinated at doctors' offices, retail pharmacies, community clinics and the county's public health centers. Residents can also call 2-1-1 or visit the county's immunization program website, sdiz.com, for a list of county locations administering free vaccines. 2021
