PHOENIX (AP) — Joe Arpaio has been narrowly defeated in his bid to win back the sheriff’s post in metro Phoenix that he held for 24 years before being voted out in 2016. Arpaio on Friday lost the Republican primary to his former top aide, Jerry Sheridan. Sheridan will face the Democrat who previously defeated Arpaio, Paul Penzone, in the November general election. Arpaio also ran an unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign in 2018, not long after President Donald Trump pardoned his criminal conviction for disobeying a judge’s order. Police in Troy, Michigan said a man armed with knives was shot and killed after charging at officers on Monday morning.According to police, they were called to the home on Saddle Brook for a domestic situation just after 7 a.m. on Monday.Officers followed the suspect, a 23-year-old man, and when he noticed officers, he started charging at them. Another officer in an unmarked car got out to distract the suspect, and then the suspect tried getting in an unmarked car.Police say he then turned toward the marked vehicle and started charging at the officer. The officer pulled out his taser and fired, but the taser was not effective and he kept charging toward officers.That's when the officer shot at the suspect several times, killing him.Police said it's been over 20 years since there was an officer-involved shooting in Troy. 849

(AP) — Police in Northern California say they'll pursue criminal charges against a wildfire cleanup worker who posted photos of himself posing at destroyed properties.Officials in the devastated town of Paradise said Saturday that the photos and accompanying captions by Rob Freestone are "unacceptable and reprehensible."One shows a grinning Freestone with a flower pot on his head in front of a charred home. Police in Ohio are searching for a man who pulled out a gun in a McDonald’s drive-thru because he was upset the restaurant didn’t have any McMuffins available.WKBN-TV reports that two men in a black Ford Taurus went through a McDonald’s drive-thru in Warren, Ohio  at about 3:40 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The man appeared to be in their early 20s.When told the restaurant did not have any McMuffins at the time, the driver of the car pulled out a gun and called the McDonald’s employee “an offensive name,” according to WFMJ-TV. The pair then sped away.According to the Associated Press, no one was hurt during the incident. The manager of the store told Warren police that he would review surveillance footage to see if the incident was caught on video. 768
