LEMON GROVE (KGTV) -- People are being asked to avoid a busy intersection in Lemon Grove following a natural gas line break Monday afternoon.The affected area is along the 6900 block of Federal Avenue, officials said.Fire officials issued the warning at around 2:45 p.m. They are warning people to avoid the area for about two hours while crew work to repair the break.It's unclear what caused the break.Stay with 10News for updates on this developing story.   488

Larry Scott, the commissioner of the Pac-12 Conference, said Thursday that a new coronavirus test that claims to provide fast and accurate results is a “major step” when it comes to allowing a football season.Last month, the Pac-12, along with the Big Ten and several other Division 1 FBS conference, decided to postpone the college football season. Meanwhile, two Division 1 FBS games were played on Thursday.Of the Power 5 conference, the ACC, SEC and Big 12 are all moving forward with a fall football season. The decision not to have a fall football season for the Big Ten and Pac-12 amid the coronavirus pandemic came with some backlash as parents, players and even President Donald Trump have pushed for the Pac-12 and Big Ten to change their decisions.And now they have a reason to change their mind.“This is a major step toward the safe resumption of Pac-12 sport competitions,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott. “The availability of a reliable test that can be administered daily, with almost immediate results, addresses one of the key concerns that was expressed by our medical advisory committee, as well as by student-athletes, coaches and others. At the same time, our partnership with Quidel, the industry leader in point-of-care antigen testing, will provide crucial research data that will benefit our members’ communities as well as the entire country.”The Pac-12 said that the Quidel tests are expected to reach Pac-12 athletic departments by the end of the fall. The conference says that having a reliable rapid coronavirus test was a key reason why the conference postponed the fall football season.The company claims to have results within 15 minutes and to be 96.7% accurate.According to The Athletic reporter Nicole Auerbach, Scott said he is hopeful that the Pac-12 could resume and align its football calendar with the Big Ten. Mike Lee, R-Utah, appeared at Judge Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing in-person on Monday and delivered his opening remarks without a mask.On Oct. 2, Lee announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He was one of about a dozen high-ranking government officials — including President Donald Trump — who attended Barrett's Sept. 26 nomination ceremony at the White House and later contracted the virus.Lee said he had received a letter from Congress's attending physician, Dr. Brian Monahan, clearing him to return to his in-person duties — though the letter did not note that Lee had tested negative for the virus."Based upon current CDC guidelines, you have met criteria to end COVID-19 isolation for those with mild to moderate disease," Monahan's letter read. "Specifically, it has been greater than 10 days since symptom onset, you have had no fever in absence of fever reducing medication for at least 24 hours, and your other symptoms have improved. The CDC does not recommend repeat SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing if these criteria are met.”It's unclear if Lee was tested prior to appearing in the Capitol Building on Monday. Graham's refusal to take a test forced a change in format for the weekend debate.During his opening comments, Leahy claimed that Republican senator's aversion to COVID-19 tests was a political tactic to remove any risk that would delay Barrett's nomination until after election day.In his opening remarks, Graham said that his committee had consulted with Monahan and the Capitol architect officials to set up the hearing room "in a fashion we can safely do our business."Following senators' opening statements, Graham explained that the Capitol architect had deemed the hearing room to be in compliance with CDC social distancing guidelines. He said that he wanted to make sure the room was safe but added that like the rest of America, the Senate needed to get "back to work."He also added that he had tested negative "last Friday" following brief contact with Lee, and said that he would not be tested for the virus at the request of "political opponents."Earlier this year, Monahan asked senators to wear masks while on the Senate floor. LA MESA (KGTV)- Friday evening could have been one of the last times the community sees the farmers market on La Mesa Boulevard. On Tuesday the La Mesa City Council will vote to determine the future of the farmers market. Scott Strickland is a vendor at the La Mesa Farmers Market and has been for four years. Strickland tells 10News, “it would be about probably 25 percent of my gross revenue.” Strickland does not want the farmers market to leave La Mesa Boulevard. The farmers market has been at this location for one year and Strickland says it’s been the best location for the vendors, “I would say maybe 10 times the money we were making over there.” Friday, 10News tried talking with business owners who oppose the farmers market being on La Mesa Boulevard. They all have brick and mortar locations that they say are suffering on Friday evenings. One restaurant owner showed us empty tables during their happy hour, another shared they had to cut down staffing on Friday nights because they were losing about three thousand dollars. Neither were his three renters when something came tearing through his home off La Mesa Blvd."My heart is pounding right now even thinking about it," said Jacob.A 9mm bullet pierced the screen and a double-glass sliding patio door in the back of the house, before flying past the living room and into a kitchen cabinet. A neighbor says she heard 12 gunshots just past midnight.Jacob says if he hadn't been out that night, he would have been sitting in the living room watching television - and right in the line of fire."Looking at the angle of the bullet, probably would have been right at my head. I'm speechless. I would have been dead," said Jacob.It's a chilling thought to go with his feelings of frustration. A 9mm bullet can travel upwards of a mile and a half. Jacob tells 10news the sound of New Year's Eve gunfire is nothing new, and he's fed up."Please think twice, there's other human beings in the neighborhood. It's just irresponsible. That's all it is," said Jacob.The damage will total several thousand dollars. Jacob did file with La Mesa Police, before officers took the bullet into evidence. 1273
