SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials with the the Department of Homeland Security announced Friday plans to screen people returning from restricted countries.American citizens, legal permanent residents, and their immediate families returning to the United States will be required to arrive at one of 13 airports for enhanced screening for coronavirus.“While the overall risk of serious infection from the coronavirus to the general public remains low at this time, the Trump administration is taking these aggressive measures to keep the risk low, requiring all Americans returning from affected areas in Europe to be funneled through 13 airports for screening upon their return to the U.S.,” said Acting Secretary Wolf. “To minimize disruptions to travelers, TSA, CBP, and air carriers are working to identify qualifying passengers before their scheduled flights. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday evening, a city official put inspection tags the doors of the Barrio Logan warehouse where a platform collapsed this weekend, injuring 21 minors and a few adults. It happened Saturday night at Vault PK parkour gym on Main Street. A city spokesperson told us there are "definite code violations" and permit issues, but no further details were released. Cal/OSHA was notified of the incident but is not investigating since no workers were injured. Team 10 verified that Vault PK's business license became active in July. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Parents with students in the San Diego Unified School District are concerned after finding out the state medical board subpoenaed doctors who wrote their students medical exemptions for vaccinations.The district’s physician, Dr. Howard Taras, tells 10News, “We have many more medical exemptions over the past two years than we’ve ever had before.”Taras worked with the district for 30 years and says the increase in medical exemptions concerned him, so he brought it to the Committee on Infectious Diseases of the American Academy of Pediatrics.“I gave them loose data, like how many kids in the school district had medical exemptions that any doctor would see as a very worthwhile reason and how many were coming from doctors that were not very sound reasons in common medical practice," Taras said.The committee then took that list to the Medical Board of California. Now, parents in the district are upset knowing their child was included in a list sent to the state.“I’m absolutely appalled at the irresponsibility to have compiled this list in the first place. This is nothing that should have ever been getting out," a mother who did not want to be identified told 10News.10News learned the medical board is now investigating and has already subpoenaed 32 doctors who wrote medical exemptions for students in the district. A parent shared the letter that was sent home with their student with 10News. The letter states the information being subpoenaed includes:1. The unredacted copy of medical vaccination exemption letters 2. The name and date of birth of all children with medical vaccination exemption 3. The name(s) of the parent and/or legal guardian 4. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Officials with Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar announced Saturday that a second Marine has tested positive for coronavirus.Capt. Matthew Gregory told 10News that the patient is currently being isolated and receiving medical support aboard the base."The air station is currently conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine who may have had contact with the Marine and notify them of the situation," officials said.The identity of the Marine is being withheld due to privacy restrictions, but Gregory said the Marine resides on base and was not on leave."The Marine self-reported to the Miramar medical clinic with symptoms and was ultimately transferred to Naval Medical Center San Diego for testing," said Gregory.The news comes after it was reported Thursday that a Marine stationed at MCAS Miramar had tested presumptive positive for coronavirus after returning from leave in Washington state. The patient was visiting family which is where officials believe he contracted the virus, officials on base familiar with the matter told 10News.Both cases are currently in isolation and being quarantined in an empty barracks that was designated to treat potential cases of Covid-19, according to Gregory. "Both are fine and doing well," said Gregory.MCAS Miramar is one of four bases outside of California used as quarantine sites for individuals returning from overseas, including U.S. citizens that were evacuated from Wuhan last month and passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship that was brought to Oakland last week. The quarantined passengers are being treated by staff with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Neither of the two infected Marines had any contact with the cruise ship passengers, according to Gregory.Gregory noted that MCAS Miramar officials had taken measures earlier this week to prepare for potential cases. He said the base implemented similar practices used by the CDC to treat service personnel."We're using the same protocols," said Gregory. "We proactively emptied out a barracks for own isolation and quarantine."Naval Medical staff are treating the two Marines, said Gregory.STATEMENT FROM MCAS: A second Marine stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently being isolated and receiving medical support aboard the base. The air station is currently conducting a thorough contact investigation to determine who may have had contact with the Marine and notify them of the situation. The Marine self-reported to the Miramar medical clinic with symptoms and was ultimately transferred to Naval Medical Center San Diego for testing. The test was found positive approximately 24 hours later and the Marine was placed into isolation in a barracks room aboard Miramar designated for quarantine by service personnel. The health and safety of our military service members, their families, and our San Diego neighbors is the paramount concern of the command as the events around COVID-19 continue to unfold. We continue to work closely with our federal, county, and city partners to ensure we do everything we can to mitigate the effects of the virus and prevent more cases from arising.
