SAN DIEGO (KGTV)-- Some Mission Beach residents say they are fed up after their streets are piling up with trash. They say designated parking spots for e-scooters have remained uncleaned for months, causing concern for flooding. It's all fun and games until it's not. "When the rainy season does happen, you will see Mission Beach flooding," Mission Beach resident and Town Council VP, Greg Knight said. First, the problem was unsupervised parking. E-scooters were piling up all over the neighborhood. Now, they are giving Mission Beach residents a new headache - their corralled parking spots."This [Corral] gets filled a lot of times with leaves, sand, debris," Knight said. "We have a lot of party rentals that go on here, which means excess trash."All of the debris should be swept up twice a week on Mission Boulevard. But since the City of San Diego put in the e-scooter parking corrals in July, Knight says these areas have remained untouched. "When this washes down, that's the stuff that goes into the storm drain and will actually block it up," Knight said. Knight saw a City street sweeper driving around the corrals, even after he says the Mayor's office promised street sweeping would not be affected. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Facebook left millions of user passwords readable by its employees for years, the company acknowledged Thursday after a security researcher exposed the lapse .By storing passwords in readable plain text, Facebook violated fundamental computer-security practices. Those call for organizations and websites to save passwords in a scrambled form that makes it almost impossible to recover the original text."There is no valid reason why anyone in an organization, especially the size of Facebook, needs to have access to users' passwords in plain text," said cybersecurity expert Andrei Barysevich of Recorded Future.Facebook said there is no evidence its employees abused access to this data. But thousands of employees could have searched them. The company said the passwords were stored on internal company servers, where no outsiders could access them.The incident reveals yet another huge and basic oversight at a company that insists it is a responsible guardian for the personal data of its 2.2 billion users worldwide.The security blog KrebsOnSecurity said Facebook may have left the passwords of some 600 million Facebook users vulnerable. In a blog post , Facebook said it will likely notify "hundreds of millions" of Facebook Lite users, millions of Facebook users and tens of thousands of Instagram users that their passwords were stored in plain text.Facebook Lite is a version designed for people with older phones or low-speed internet connections. It is used primarily in developing countries.Last week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg touted a new "privacy-focused vision " for the social network that would emphasize private communication over public sharing. The company wants to encourage small groups of people to carry on encrypted conversations that neither Facebook nor any other outsider can read.The fact that the company couldn't manage to do something as simple as encrypting passwords, however, raises questions about its ability to manage more complex encryption issues — such in messaging — flawlessly.Facebook said it discovered the problem in January. But security researcher Brian Krebs wrote that in some cases the passwords had been stored in plain text since 2012. Facebook Lite launched in 2015 and Facebook bought Instagram in 2012.Recorded Future's Barysevich said he could not recall any major company caught leaving so many passwords exposed internally. He said he's seen a number of instances where much smaller organizations made such information readily available — not just to programmers but also to customer support teams.Security analyst Troy Hunt, who runs the "haveibeenpwned.com" data breach website, said that the situation is embarrassing for Facebook, but that there's no serious, practical impact unless an adversary gained access to the passwords. But Facebook has had major breaches, most recently in September when attackers accessed some 29 million accounts .Jake Williams, president of Rendition Infosec, said storing passwords in plain text is "unfortunately more common than most of the industry talks about" and tends to happen when developers are trying to rid a system of bugs.He said the Facebook blog post suggests storing passwords in plain text may have been "a sanctioned practice," although he said it's also possible a "rogue development team" was to blame.Hunt and Krebs both likened Facebook's failure to similar stumbles last year on a far smaller scale at Twitter and Github; the latter is a site where developers store code and track projects. In those cases, software bugs were blamed for accidentally storing plaintext passwords in internal logs.Facebook's normal procedure for passwords is to store them encoded, the company noted Thursday in its blog post.That's good to know, although Facebook engineers apparently added code that defeated the safeguard, said security researcher Rob Graham. Frustrated neighbors say they're leaving trash, dirt, and causing trouble."They frequent this little corner right here," said Bernie Polanco, who lives in the neighborhood.It's likely one of the first things you'll notice at the corner of 40th and Madison Avenue.  Trash, tarps, and blankets--all signs of homeless camps in the area."I really feel like it's hurting our community, hurting our little neighborhood," Polanco said.A neighborhood just down the street from the dog park at Ward Canyon Park.  There are mounting frustrations about more homeless popping up at this dead end street and bringing crime."They were trying to find unlocked cars," Polanco said.  The problem seems to be getting worse."One possible reason, neighbors say, is construction equipment from a city contractor and vehicles parked in the street that the homeless convert into living spaces."They would attach tenting and tarp(s) to the semi-trucks or the equipment, the tractors to make temporary shelters at night and before the workers would get here in the morning, they would tear them off," Polanco explained.The combination of so many young families and people walking their dogs add more concerns for neighbors."My radar is a little more attuned," said Jeremy Dawsey-Richardson, who lives in a white house on the corner.His house may be closest to the problem, but his attitude is far different. He has a unique perspective to this complex issue because he happens to work at the San Diego Rescue Mission downtown."I've spoken with the owner of those belongings and we've talked about it," Dawsey-Richardson explained. "He's working on finding another place to place them." He says he's seen it all in his nine years living here from public urination to fights, but has also seen the homeless sweep the streets and feed his dog when it got out."Once you begin to engage and get in conversation, the stereotypes come down," he said."I think people historically ask the question, 'What's wrong with you rather than like, 'What happened to you?'"But Dawsey-Richardson stresses the importance of addressing the real issue...affordable housing."Where are people going to stay that they can make life work?" he said. UPDATE: The city of San Diego reached out to us with the following statement:  "In regards to your story on the equipment at 40th & Madison, it’s from a contractor on a City job. (KGTV) - A wall at the intersection of Ocean View and 30th in the Logan Heights neighborhood of San Diego has been turned from a place with frequent unwanted graffiti, to a work of art that embraces the community.David Mena said he and about seven artists have been painting the wall for about a month and it’s finally completed. It’s a celebration of the different types of people who live in the area, plus a look at the different cultures and ethnicities. From a depiction of the “tortilla lady” to the mascots from local schools, the art captures the spirit of a wide variety of types of people and brings a message of unity.“This is our peaceful protest and letting the community and everyone in San Diego county know that in these destructive times, we can build and we can move forward as a unit,” said Meno.He said he recruited youth in the area to help with the art as a way to inspire them and show them a positive influence.Mena said close to ,000 was donated by the community to help pay for supplies and food during the project. SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) -- Saint Paul's Episcopal Cathedral opened their doors, on Wednesday night, to people of any faith to honor the victims of the New Zealand terror attack. The church's leaders invited Muslims to join them so both faiths could learn about each other and the way that they worship. The night started with a moment of silence, then dinner followed by prayer and a question and answer session.
