VIENNA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese diplomat on Thursday urged relevant parties to step up diplomatic efforts to solve the Iranian nuclear issue."The Iranian nuclear issue is complicated and sensitive, therefore dialogues and negotiation are the only right way to solve the issue, " said Hu Xiaodi, China's permanent representative and ambassador to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna.Hu welcomed the forthcoming meeting between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany scheduled for next week in Geneva.The resumption of the talks would offer a new opportunity to promote the process of a diplomatic solution, Hu told a board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).Hu noted that, as a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran enjoyed the right of peaceful use of nuclear energy and at the same time carried corresponding international obligations."We expect Iran to fully implement relevant resolutions of the Board and the Security Council and strengthen cooperation with the agency, so as to foster the confidence of the international community in the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, " he added.Hu also urged the IAEA to play a constructive role in implementing safeguards in Iran and promoting a proper solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.

SUZHOU, Jiangsu, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has announced that the special campaign to crackdown on prostitution has been effective, with cases of prostitution and obscene performances in entertainment venues in October dropping 18.4 percent on a month-on month basis.The campaign in the latter half of the year attached increased importance to the investigation and punishment of the organizers of prostitution.The campaign also targeted business operators and the "protective umbrellas" - sometimes local government officials - that allow prostitution to happen, according to a document released at a ministry work conference in Suzhou Saturday.More effort must be made to educate and rehabilitate women involved in the prostitution and obscene performance cases, the document said.According to the document, the MPS sent 27 groups of inspectors to 651 entertainment business venues in four municipalities and 20 provinces during the campaign. At some 381 of the venues, cases of prostitution or obscene performance were discovered.In July, the ministry sent 10 inspection groups to eight cities in Jilin, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan and Shaanxi, to raid 10 entertainment venues, resulting in the arrest of 370 suspects.In the following three months, the ministry and local police solved 54 major cases, the document said.

BEIJING, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's economic planner and price regulator, said Friday it has asked local governments to crack down on some gas stations selling diesel above the state-set prices.NDRC investigators found some gas stations have been selling diesel above state-set prices in the provinces of Sichuan, Hubei, Henan, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Jiangxi and Shanxi and Chongqing Municipality.The NDRC has requested local governments to punish the offending gas stations.The stations were ordered to stop overcharging and turn over illegal incomes to authorities, according to a statement on the NDRC web-site.Also, the stations would receive punitive fines, it said.Among the violators, Yueyuan gas station in Xichang, Sichuan Province, sold No. 0 diesel for 9 yuan (1.35 U.S. dollars) per liter, as against the state-set 6.55 yuan.The NDRC said that consumers can call 12358 to complain about diesel overpricing and the price regulators will respond quickly.The latest measures were adopted in the wake of those publicized Tuesday, which were aimed to stop some refiners and diesel wholesalers from overcharging.An unprecedented diesel shortage has hit China's cities and markets, leading some wholesalers and gas stations to sell diesel above the state-set prices.Due to the diesel shortage, some enterprises suspended production and express deliveries turned into "snail deliveries."People found that it took much longer for buses to arrive and even some crematories found it hard to get enough diesel for cremations."We can't find enough diesel. BEIJING, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- China's gross domestic product (GDP) is predicted to grow by around 9.5 percent in 2011, 0.5 percentage points lower compared to the growth rate expected for this year, said a report issued Wednesday by the Bank of China (BOC).The report by the BOC, China's third largest lender, was based on the bank's projections of weak overseas demand, tighter monetary policy, and the government's planned economic restructuring for 2011, the first year of China's 12th five-year plan.The Chinese government announced in early December that it will switch its monetary policy stance from relatively loose to prudent next year to tackle rising inflation and keep economic growth at a sustainable pace.The report also said government policies this year to curb soaring property prices in some major cities, and the country's efforts to improve energy efficiency had slowed the economy with the GDP dropping to 9.6 percent in the third quarter, down from the second quarter's 10.3 percent and 11.9 percent in the first quarter.The report also forecast inflation to rise 4 percent in 2011, compared to the 3.3-percent rise expected for 2010. It said that in the second half of the year, the producer price index (PPI) for China's industrial products had kept rising along with the consumer price index (CPI), adding more inflationary pressure for the future.The Chinese government set a 3-percent target for inflation this year, but looks unachieveable after the index rose 3.2 percent during the first 11 months. The report forecast the People's Bank of China, the central bank, would likely hike rates for up to three times next year, mostly during the first half of the year.The central bank on Sunday raised the benchmark one-year lending and deposit rates by 25 basis points for the second time in just over two months.
