BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The world's most populous country is expanding its social security net as China's major social insurance program reached a new high for the number of people covered, official figures show.The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said on Thursday that the nation's urban pension insurance covered 235.5 million people by the end of 2009, an increase of 16.6 million over the beginning of that same year.In addition, 26.47 million migrant workers were also included, which was 2.31 million more migrants than at the start of 2009.Officials note that pension fund revenues topped 1.15 trillion yuan by the end of last year, up 18 percent year on year. The man was found dead at about 11 p.m. after rescuers pulled away the billboard with the help of machines.A motorcycle rider was hit by a falling billboard and died at the site at about 8 p.m..The typhoon is expected to hover in the island for about 9 hours before it enters Beibu Bay on Saturday morning.The city had recalled to port all fishing boats by Friday noon and almost 40,000 people across the island had been relocated by 4:30 p.m..The typhoon, the first to hit China this year, has triggered high waves and cut some village roads.

BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a rainstorm alert Wednesday as heavy rains were expected to pound the flood-affected southern provinces.Most regions in south China, including provinces of Guizhou, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and the flood-hit Fujian, Hunan and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, would experience heavy rain or rainstorms between 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday (Beijing time), the NMC said.Rainstorms were forecast for south China also during the next three days, while regions in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north, and northeastern China would also experience rainfalls, it said.The observatory warned local authorities in south China, especially in the flood-battered regions, to get prepared for possible floods and geological disasters.In Fujian, heavy rains have triggered landslides and flash floods, which engulfed two vehicles in Nanping City and left at least six people dead as of Tuesday.China's Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has dispatched work teams to the southern provinces of Hunan, Fujian and Guangxi and to Xinjiang after heavy rains hit the regions.
