(KGTV) — California is taking its time before issuing guidance to allow the state's theme parks to reopen during the coronavirus pandemic.Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state was not planning to issue such guidance soon, despite reports last week that rules that would allow the shuttered locations to reopen would be issued soon.Disney Chairman Bob Iger recently left the state's economic recovery task force, an early indication that business leaders for the industry could be at odds with the state over reopening. According to the Associated Press, Erin Guerrero, executive director of the California Attractions and Parks Association, said amusement park leaders wanted changes to a proposed draft they reviewed this month."There’s disagreements in terms of opening a major theme park. We’re going to let science and data make that determination," Newsom said, adding that he wasn't "surprised at all" that Iger left.Newsom said the state is continuing to work with the industry and would approach theme parks with a "health-first" framework, but was not in a hurry to release rules."We are going to be led by a health-first framework and we’re going to be stubborn about it," Newsom said. "That’s our commitment — that’s our resolve. We feel there’s no hurry putting out guidelines."He added that working to put out appropriate rules would depend on local data."It’s very complex. These are like small cities, small communities, small towns. (KGTV) - A group of Massachusetts police officers and firefighters are being hailed as heroes after coming to the aid of a choking puppy this week.North Reading resident Megan Vitale stormed into a police station Sunday telling officers her 9-week-old Saint Bernard puppy, Bodhi, was choking on food. An acquaintance came running in with Bodhi shortly after, the puppy limp and unresponsive in his arms, surveillance footage from the station showed.A group of officers came running out to begin administering first aid to the puppy. A group of North Reading firefighters also arrived at the station to help with back blows and chest compressions. RELATED: Beloved lizard missing from Spring Valley pet storeAfter 10 minutes, the food blockage was finally dislodged and Bodhi was revived."Ultimately, a life was saved thanks to rescuers falling back on their training and remaining calm. Even though we are not faced with this kind of incident every day, the officers reacted just as they would in any emergency situation," North Reading Police Chief Murphy said. “We are hopeful that the puppy will make a full recovery."Firefighters used a special oxygen tank designed for pets to help Bodhi get breathing again."Many of our firefighters have pets at home in their own families. We do not get to choose the emergency situation that comes our way, so it is important that first responders be prepared for anything," Fire Chief Stats said.Bodhi was able to leave with Vitale to receive follow-up care from a veterinarian, according to the police department. 1599

(KGTV) — For the second time in person and final time before the 2020 election, President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden will meet on the debate stage.Thursday's debate is set to begin at 6 p.m. PST from Nashville, Tenn., with moderator Kristen Welker walking the candidates through topics including fighting COVID-19, American families, race in America, climate change, national security, and leadership.The debate will also feature a format change introducing a "mute button," requiring that a candidates' microphone is turned off when their opponent is delivering his opening remarks for a given topic. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas outlined the city’s recent accomplishments and layed out its future goals in her fourth State of the City Address Tuesday night. Salas went over the growth and achievements San Diego County's second-largest city has seen over the last year, including neighborhood revitalization and the approval of the Bayfront Project. During the address, Salas spoke about events that drew large crowds over the last year.Salas said the city’s Fourth of July celebration in 2017 drew a crowd of 15,000 while more than 35,000 people attended HarborFest on the Bayfront.RELATED: Port of San Diego, Chula Vista moves forward with bayfront developmentThe Mayor also spoke about growth happening in Third Avenue Village citing the Lemon Fest, Taste of Third and Village Summer Nights in June. A popular topic throughout California in recent years is infrastructure. (CNN) -- Waylon McGuire had a prime idea to surprise his wife on her birthday. He decided to order a cake shaped like one of her most favorite things.Chocolate? Flowers? Diamonds?No, an Amazon delivery box."I laughed so hard. I thought it was a real box at first," said Emily McGuire, who gets two or three Amazon deliveries each week.The chocolate cake was created by Sweet Dreams Bakery in North Carolina, complete with a shipping label and packing tape.
