(AP) — California's unemployment agency is not answering 60% of the calls it receives for help as the state struggles to work through a backlog of more than 1 million pending claims. Employment Development Director Sharon Hilliard told a panel of frustrated state lawmakers on Monday that California is on pace to have 3,700 people working in its call center by January. Russia appointed actor Steven Seagal as a "special representative" on US-Russian humanitarian ties, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in statement on its official Facebook page Saturday.According to the statement, the action star's role will be to promote US-Russia relations "in the humanitarian sphere," adding that the role will include collaboration "in the sphere of culture, public and youth exchanges."The foreign ministry said the unpaid role will be similar to the United Nations' goodwill ambassador positions.Seagal, who became a Russian citizen in 2016, is a close friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ron Jeremy, an adult film star, is charged with forcibly raping three women and sexually assaulting a fourth in separate incidents between 2014 and 2019.The Los Angeles County District Attorney announced the charges against 67-year-old Ronald Jeremy Hyatt Tuesday, and said three of the incidents happened at the same bar in West Hollywood.The District Attorney accuses Hyatt of sexually assaulting two women, ages 33 and 46, on separate occasions in 2017 at the bar. Then in 2019, the DA states Hyatt raped a 30-year-old woman at the same, unnamed bar.Hyatt is also accused of forcibly raping a 25-year-old woman in May 2014 at a home in West Hollywood.If Hyatt is convicted of these charges, he could face a maximum of 90 years to life in prison.In 2001, a documentary about his career and featuring Hyatt was released, “Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy.” He reportedly has more than 2,000 film credits as an adult film actor. 940

Robert Grays was having the game of his life on Saturday as his Midwestern State University squad was beating Texas A&M-Kingsville 35-13. The 19-year-old sophomore had matched a career-high with seven tackles, with his team about to improve to 2-0 on the season. Saturday ended up being Grays' final game.  With 3:24 remaining in the fourth quarter, Grays went in for a tackle, severely injuring his neck. After being transported to Houston for treatment, Grays died on Tuesday from the injury. Grays was the squad's starting cornerback, and also played on special teams. Grays was a graduate of Fort Bend L.V. Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas."We are saddened by the loss of Robert Grays, one of our own. This is not an easy time for anyone associated with the football program," MSU coach Bill Maskill said. "He was a tremendous individual. I really believe he might have been the most popular man on our team."He always had a smile on his face. I never saw him have a bad day. He was an uplifting spirit for all of us. He was an exciting, fun loving guy. He's going to be sorely missed. Somehow, someway we'll find a way to fight through it. Robert would want us to forge ahead."Saturday marked a deadly day in college football.
