TAIPEI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- China's eastern Zhejiang Province and Taiwan have agreed to deepen cooperation in agriculture, tourism, finance and other sectors, according to sources with a Zhejiang delegation which concluded its eight-day visit to the island on Wednesday.The sources said that the delegation, led by Zhejiang governor Lu Zushan, purchased 31 million yuan (4.5 million U.S. dollars) worth fruits and tea products from local farmers in Kaohsiung and Nantou.Zhejiang provincial government also pledged to help Taiwan farmers to sell their agricultural products in Hangzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu and other cities in the province and offer them preferential treatment in participating farm produce exhibitions.Zhejiang Province plans to increase its imports from Taiwan to about 10 billion U.S. dollars by the end of this year, from last year's 7.7 billion U.S. dollars.After the first six Zhejiang companies which have been permitted to conduct investment in Taiwan, Zhejiang government will promote more companies to invest in the island.Commercial banks in Zhejiang and Taiwan have also achieved cooperation agreement on financial service, insurance, futures trading and other services for small and medium-sized companies on both sides.Zhejiang is where many Taiwan people come from.The province is also a magnet for Taiwanese investment. TAIYUAN/HARBIN, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in an explosion at a coal mine in Linfen City of north China's Shanxi Province early Saturday has risen to 17 after another two bodies were found, local authorities said.The blast at Liugou Coal Mine of Yicheng County also left 104 persons injured, seven of them seriously, as of 11 p.m. Saturday, said Wang Jianshe, head of the county's People's Hospital, where all the injured were admitted.All the injured are in stable condition, Wang said.Basic search and rescue work is over, said a senior official of Yangquan Coal Industry (Group) Co. Ltd, which owns the mine. The official said that the blast took place in the dormitory area, where most of buildings were destroyed by the powerful explosion.A miner surnamed Zhang told Xinhua that families of many miners had come to live here because the children were currently on their summer vacation.But officials so far have not disclosed how many children and women had died during the accident.Zhang said he saw a couple died after huge stones fell on them in a dormitory room.Initial investigation showed that the blast was caused by explosives hidden illegally in the area, and a suspect has been detained by the police, the official said.A further Investigation into the cause of the blast is underway.Also on Saturday, 24 people were trapped in a flooded coal mine in northeast China's Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province.The city government said the accident at Hengxinyuan Mine took place at around 5 p.m. Saturday. NANJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A powerful explosion at a factory in eastern China's Nanjing City Wednesday has left at least 10 people dead and hundreds injured, including 14 critically, the city government said.Officials of the government of Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, told a press conference Wednesday evening that 10 people were killed and 14 others suffered serious injuries after the blast at 10:11 a.m. ripped through an abandoned plastics factory in northern Nanjing's Xixia District.Further, more than 120 people have been hospitalized, according to the official.The death toll, which is based on the number of bodies so far recovered, could climb as rescuers are still clearing the explosion site and some injured people are reported to be in very critical condition.The blast was caused by a gas leak after a propylene pipeline was damaged as workers dismantled factory buildings of the Nanjing No. 4 Plastics Factory, said a statement from the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS).The rescue headquarters say an excavator owned by Yangzhou Hongyuan Construction and Development Co., Ltd. hit a a pipe of 159 mm in diameter.The gas leak started at 9:56 a.m. and explosion occurred at 10:11 a.m.Gas supply was cut off a minute later, said Liu Zhaohua, deputy head of Nanjin's work safety bureau.The excavator operator, whose identity was not revealed, has been held by police for investigation.The explosion occurred when a motorist started a car engine at the scene, igniting the leaking gas, the SAWS statement said, without saying if the motorist was among the victims.Some rescuers and repairmen who had come to handle the gas leak may have died in the explosion, the headquarters said.
