(CNN) -- Godspeed!A historic cathedral in England has installed a giant indoor fairground slide, supposedly so that visitors can see its roof up close.The 50-foot-high ride, known in Britain as a helter-skelter, was unveiled on Thursday at Norwich Cathedral in eastern England and will be open to the public to enjoy for 10 days.The church, completed in 1145, insists the initiative is no gimmick -- in fact, a clergyman says the idea came to him while he was visiting the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican."I had the slightly risky thought of, 'I know this is amazing, but actually the ceiling at Norwich Cathedral is every bit as wonderful,'" Reverend Canon Andy Bryant told the Press Association news agency."We have one of the greatest collections of medieval roof bosses anywhere in northern Europe. The trouble is they are so high up that most people never get a chance to really appreciate them.""And so was born the idea -- could we get people up higher to these roof bosses and so appreciate that they are exquisite art as they are the most beautiful pieces of stone carving but also the story that's captured within them, which is the story of the Bible."The installation, set up in front of a large stained glass window, is part of a program called "Seeing It Differently."It follows a similar move by Rochester Cathedral, which unveiled a mini golf course in its central area last month -- and comes as churches across the UK struggle to stem a decline in attendance.In a post on the cathedral's website, Bryant admitted that the idea could prove controversial with churchgoers."I get why for some the image of a giant helter-skelter sitting in this great Nave feels slightly shocking," he wrote. "It does provoke and it begs the question, what is this space for? The walls of this great building have seen many things through their 900 years and I suspect will take this latest arrival in their stride.""But climbing 50ft above the Nave floor will helps us see this space differently, it will give us a new perspective. (KGTV) — An 8-year-old Guatemalan boy in the care of U.S. Customs and Border Protection died shortly after midnight Tuesday in New Mexico, officials say.The child was in CBP custody when an agent noticed him showing signs of illness Monday. The child and his father were transferred to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in New Mexico, where staff diagnosed the boy with a common cold and fever.The boy was released with prescriptions for Ibuprofen and amoxicillin later that day, officials said.RELATED: The final hours of Jakelin Caal Maquin, the Guatemalan girl who died in Border Patrol custodyMonday night, officials said the boy began vomiting and was taken back to the medical center, where officials say he died shortly after midnight Tuesday. The cause of the child's death is not known and officials did not release his identity.CBP officials said in a release that a review will be conducted, as is procedure, and the Guatemalan government has been notified. Officials said more information would be released shortly.The boy's death is the second death of a child in CBP care this month. Jakelin Caal Maquin, 7, died on Dec. 8, less than 48 hours after Border Patrol agents detained her and more than 100 other migrants at a remote New Mexico border crossing. 1283

(KGTV and KESQ) - The Santee attorney who was rescued after a fall in Joshua Tree National Park is speaking about the experience.Paul Hanks drove to the park to hike on his 54th birthday last week. He had intended to spend half a day ‘bouldering’ before returning home.Hanks’ plans took a painful turn when he slipped and fell about 20 feet, injuring his leg.“It happened. I slipped and it was just, having not slipped in 45 years, it was instant and total shock,” Hanks said.RELATED: Family details how hiker stayed alive in Joshua TreeHanks crawled for miles, yelling for help. Eventually he settled under a Joshua Tree for the night, hoping he could throw some loose dirt on himself for warmth. Hanks quickly ran out of food and supplies.“By the very first night, I was drinking my own urine. I had drank all of the water in my bottle and was refilling my bottle with my own urine.”Hanks said the decision saved his life. He later found rainwater to drink and ate a cactus.“It gave me some physical energy and it gave me some hope and it made me believe this is giving me the 24 hours I'm looking for,” said Hanks.On Hanks’ fifth day in the park, search and rescue teams found him.“These three angels appeared out of nowhere and I was... I was shocked,” Hanks said. “I just couldn't believe it. I didn't want to say I had given up. Multiple times I had written myself off as dead. That I was never going to see another human being again and they showed up.”The rescue team gave Hanks Gatorade and took him to safety. Hanks is being treated at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Family members say he’ll have several surgeries for fractures on his leg, heel, forehead and pelvis. Hanks is expected to make a full recovery. 1750
