LEXINGTON, Ky. -- A teenager died Sunday after being shot at a mall in Lexington, Kentucky. The Fayette County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 17-year-old Kenneth Wayne Bottoms Jr., of Lexington. Bottoms was transported UK Medical Center at about 4 p.m where he was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.Two other victims were also injured in the shooting, which police say happened in front of a Bath and Body Works at Fayette Mall. Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said at least one of the victims and a suspect knew each other. They may have had an interaction prior to the shooting.Officers are currently interviewing witnesses. No suspects are in custody at this point.Scripps station WLEX interviewed one Lexington shopper who was inside Bath and Body Works. She says she witnessed an argument outside of the shop that escalated when someone pulled out a gun."Held it up at face level... and he shot four shots off," said the shopper.The shopper, who wished to remain anonymous, says she was escorted with others toward the back of the store."We stayed in the bathroom until police got us out of the service door to Bath and Body Works, and they walked us around all of the blood to take us outside," said the shopper.Mark Thomas was inside his shop, Bourbon Creek, when he saw a group of people run by with sheer panic on their faces. His store was packed at the time, so the retired Lexington police detective quickly jumped into action."We had several customers that were wanting to leave, and we have a back door into the parking lot, so we were able to help evacuate people through the store. (KGTV) — Video showed a female duo running from an East County home carrying items, as a helpless homeowner who watched it all unfold on his doorbell camera.At 6 p.m. Thursday, a woman is seen walking up to the front door and appears to be looking for something. Eventually, she wanders to the back of the home, and that's when a loud sound is heard. That sound is believed to the sound of a screen being torn off and a back window being forced open. Don says watching on a Ring camera app was the homeowner, his father, who was out of town with his mother in Missouri. His dad then triggered the alarm and watched as the woman holding several items got into a car in the driveway. Moments later, another woman carrying a box stuffed with items jumped into the same car."I think he started to panic. He's not there and somebody's in the house," said Don.The homeowner is heard asking through speaker "Who are you? Who are you?" before the women drive off."They called me in a panic. They didn't have number for local sheriff," said Don. He called 9-1-1 and deputies arrived minutes later. But the women were long gone. According to the video, they weren't in the home long."In a seven-minute time frame, they went through literally every drawer in the house," said Don.Stolen from the home: A coin collection and dozens of pieces of jewelry belonging to his father and mother. LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Officials with the Lakeside Union School District confirmed the closure of Winter Gardens Elementary School due to a COVID-19 outbreak.In a letter sent to families and school personnel Thursday, LUSD Superintendent Dr. Andy Johnsen acknowledged that “there have been 12 positive cases identified at Winter Gardens over the last two weeks” and because of the outbreak, the campus on 8501 Pueblo Rd. would be closed for 15 days starting Dec. 4.The school’s Extended School Services (ESS) will also be shut down.Dr. Johnsen said they closed the school Friday as, "all of the other cases we've had up until this point no other person has been identified as a close contact."Winter Gardens Elementary will proceed with distance learning from Dec. 4-18, according to Dr. Johnsen. The initial plan is to reopen the campus for in-person learning on Jan. 4.Dr. Johnsen noted that “staff members and students that may have come into close contact with the positive individuals have been directly contacted by San Diego County Public Health with further instructions.”“Because of how COVID-19 spreads, public health officials have indicated that all of us should consider ourselves as being potentially exposed,” Dr. Johnsen said in the letter.Dr. Johnsen said the infections likely originated off-campus. A La Jolla Immunologist agreed with that theory, saying on the molecular level adults are more likely to pass the virus to each other and not get it from children.Dr. Johnsen said the 12 infections is out of 308 students and staff combined. He said public health officials recommend closing schools when they reach a 5% infection threshold.He said students and staff were wearing masks, socially distant and the district hired cleaning staff to sanitize high touch points each hour and classrooms overnight. (KGTV) - An Uber driver says she was physically assaulted by a passenger Sunday night in La Mesa after a dispute over a mask."This is definitely the most insane experience driving with Uber that I've ever had," said Tia.Just past 6 p.m. Sunday, Tia, who first started driving for Uber last summer, arrived for a pickup outside the Echo Pointe apartments.Tia says a man and the passenger's sister ushered the passenger into the car with a warning for Tia: the passenger was drunk."She didn't have a mask on ... so I asked her if she could please put on a spare mask, which I had in the back seat. Took her awhile to put it on, but she did," said Tia.As the ride got started, Tia says her passenger wouldn't let it go."She said in a very snarky tone, 'Are you more comfortable now that I have a mask on?' She was very drunk, very belligerent, yelling," said Tia.Tia say she decided to end the ride."I was fed up with the disrespect," said Tia.Tia says she returned to the pickup spot and asked her to get out repeatedly, but the woman refused. Tia recorded some of it on her phone. Tia, who eventually called 911, says when she got out of the car and reached in to remove the woman's belongings, the passenger grabbed her neck from behind.According to Tia, the passenger became violent, chasing her around the car for several minutes, at one point hitting in the right eye. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - People from all over the world come to La Jolla Cove for its beauty, its water and to get an up-close look at the seals and sea lions living on the rocks. The two eyesores they don't come to see, however, are impossible to miss. "I suddenly turned around and saw these two structures and said, 'whoa! How'd that happen?" said Rich Heleniak, who was visiting the Cove on a recent Friday. Heleniak was referring to cottages called Red Roost and Red Rest. Built in 1894, they are the oldest structures still on their original location in La Jolla. At first glance, it's easy to see they have been crumbling for decades."They've been vandalized over the years, bricks have been thrown, there was an arson fire," said Corey Levitan, a journalist for the La Jolla Light newspaper who has tracked the cottages for years. The cottages were designated historic in 1976, meaning former owner Jack Heimburge could not redevelop them into apartments. Instead, he neglected them until his death in 1998. Heimburge also owned the La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites next door, so his motivation to ignore them was up for debate. "There was never enough money to take care of the cottages properly," Levitan said. "Then again, this guy owned the hotel, I think there was enough money to take care of the cottages properly."In his will, Heimburge split the ownership of the cottage among his heirs.A multi-year legal battle over what to do with them settled in 2018, clearing a key road block to revamping the cottages. "Take the original structure and rebuild the outside, and they've got carte blanche on the inside to do whatever they want, right?" said Catherine Oborne, a tourist who stopped to see the cottages. The parent company of Cove Properties Inc., which also owns the Cove Hotel and Suites next door, did not return messages seeking comment.The group has retained La Jolla architect Alcorn Benton to design the project.
