BALBOA PARK, Calif (KGTV) - A sign near Christmas nativity displays at Balboa Park is causing some stir. It says that religion is a myth and that heaven, hell, angels, devils and gods do not exist. The Freedom From Religion Foundation put up the sign earlier this month. It's one of several similar displays they placed around the country during the holiday season.A statement from the group says they put the displays together to, "celebrate free-thought and to ensure representation of the growing number of secular Americans."The FFRF says they went through the legal permitting process with the city to put the sign in place. Members say it's about freedom of speech and the separation of church and state, not a war on Christmas."If the city is going to allow space for free expression, it has to allow space for free expression for everyone," says Steve Trunk, an FFRF member in San Diego. In addition to the sign, the group put up a small "nativity" scene of their own. It features America's Founding Fathers and the Statue of Liberty looking down at a "baby" Bill of Rights. The group says it's part of their holiday celebration, honoring the day when the Bill of Rights was adopted, December 15, 1971."That's our holiday," says Trunk,But some people in the park say it's the wrong way to send a message of freedom."It's a little bit on the selfish side," says Diane Sherwood, a University Heights resident who walks through the park and enjoys seeing the Christmas decorations. "If they don't want to come here and see all these things, they certainly don't have to. But to come here and object to them when other people enjoy it isn't right.""This doesn't speak to our shared humanity," says Jamie Edmonds, who lives in San Diego. "This speaks to polarization, division, squaring off people into different camps.""I object to the nativity stuff because I feel it's very partisan and doesn't belong on public land, says Leslie Edmonds. But, she adds that the FFRF display is "equally egregious," saying she'd rather see positive messages of inclusion."Say that all are welcome here," she says. "That would be a step to take all those beliefs and widen it out to make people more aware."The FFRF says they stand by their sign, and it will be up in Balboa Park as long as the Christmas decorations are there."Our thing as an organization is religious freedom," says Trunk. "That includes the freedom not to be religious." 2434

Astrophysicist and author Neil deGrasse Tyson has denied allegations of sexual misconduct made against him by three women.Last month, three women told Patheos, a religion and spirituality website, that Tyson harassed them and made inappropriate sexual advances as early as 1984 and in recent years."Accusations can damage a reputation and a marriage. Sometimes irreversibly. I see myself as loving husband and as a public servant -- a scientist and educator who serves at the will of the public. I am grateful for the support I've received from those who continue to respect and value me and my work," he wrote in a lengthy Facebook post titled "On Being Accused."Tyson disputed or offered a different version of the allegations against him.Katelyn N. Allers, an associate professor of physics and astronomy at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, told Patheos that Tyson grabbed her arm and reached into her dress while looking at her tattoo of the solar system. She said the incident happened during a party after a gathering of the American Astronomical Society in 2009. 1081

He did not yet know the nationalities of the four crew members. The plane approached the runway from the wrong direction, according to Chhetri."The plane had permission to land from the southern side of the runway but they instead landed from the northern side. Authorities do not know why they did not land from the southern side," Chhetri said.Amanda Summers, a retired American living in Kathmandu, told CNN she saw the crash of flight BS 211 from her rooftop overlooking the airport."I was on my rooftop that overlooks Kathmandu from the top of the valley -- I spend most of my time there -- when I saw the plane flying at very low altitude," she told CNN by phone."It was flying northwards and it was much too low. I thought at first that maybe it was extra cloud cover that was forcing the plane to fly low. Then I saw the plane change direction almost completely and it was flying straight towards us. Then it lost more altitude and finally crashed."I saw one spark, or flash. Then seconds later I saw another bigger one. It was almost as if the plane might have bounced. Then no more light but a tall billow of thick black smoke rose in the air," she added."We had done boarding, waiting to take off and then a 70-seater ATR plane was approaching to land and everyone in our plane started to look towards it. And then 30 second later there was smoke," traveller Shradha Giri, who was at the airport waiting for a domestic flight, told CNN.ATR is a Franco-Italian aviation company known for its turboprop planes.According to Flightradar24, the plane was a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, which the company describes as "the world's most modern turboprop."The-CNN-Wire? & ? 2018 Cable News Network, Inc., a Time Warner Company. Attorney General Bill Barr has accepted an invitation to appear before the House Judiciary Committee on July 28, according to a statement from Kerri Kupec, the Director of Communications at Justice Department. The House Judiciary Committee has been conducting oversight hearings regarding potential political interference from Trump administration officials in certain cases connected to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.Several media outlets reported this week that Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-New York, had been considering issuing a subpoena to Barr to force his testimony.House Democrats on the Judiciary Committee claim that Barr has intervened on President Donald Trump's behalf in numerous instances since he replaced Jeff Sessions as AG in February 2019.Over the weekend, Barr announced that Geoffrey Berman — who had been investigating Trump's financials in is role as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York — had resigned. Berman quickly refuted the claim, saying he had learned of his "resignation" in the media. Barr later announced that he had fired Berman, and Berman only agreed to step aside when he was assured that his hand-pick successor could continue investigating unimpeded for the time being. 1260
