The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now publicly acknowledging people can be infected with the coronavirus through airborne transmission, especially in enclosed spaces with inadequate ventilation. The update embraces growing evidence and international research showing the coronavirus can linger in the air longer - for minutes and hours - and travel farther than six feet. The update comes two weeks after the official CDC website was updated to reflect this, only to be removed a few days later with the agency saying it was “posted in error” before it was fully reviewed. The draft language seemed to imply aerosol or airborne transmission was the main way the coronavirus spreads, and the CDC says that is not the case.“Infections occur mainly through exposure to respiratory droplets when a person is in close contact with someone who has COVID-19,” the CDC states.Their added section is titled “COVID-19 can sometimes be spread by airborne transmission,” and includes information about smaller particles lingering in the air after an infected person had left the space. "Some infections can be spread by exposure to virus in small droplets and particles that can linger in the air for minutes to hours," it reads.“There is evidence that under certain conditions, people with COVID-19 seem to have infected others who were more than 6 feet away. These transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation. Sometimes the infected person was breathing heavily, for example while singing or exercising,” the new section on the CDC’s website reads. “These transmissions occurred within enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation.”The World Health Organization changed their guidance in July and noted the prevalence of airborne transmission of coronavirus and particles lingering in the air. Hundreds of scientists encouraged the WHO to make the acknowledgement following research and studies. 1943

The CBS board of directors is in the process of picking outside counsel to conduct an investigation after company CEO Les Moonves was accused of sexual misconduct. In a statement, CBS said that "no other action" was taken on the matter at Monday's board meeting. The meeting was scheduled before a bombshell report in The New Yorker Friday detailed allegations against the CEO. Six women told the magazine that Moonves sexually harassed them.In a statement to The New Yorker that was also obtained by CNNMoney on Friday, Moonves said he has "promoted a culture of respect and opportunity for all employees" throughout his tenure at CBS."I recognize that there were times decades ago when I may have made some women uncomfortable by making advances," Moonves said. "Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely. But I always understood and respected — and abided by the principle — that 'no' means 'no,' and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone's career."The idea that Moonves should step aside during the probe was raised by at least some board members this weekend, according to one source who spoke to CNNMoney on Sunday. The board also said on Monday that it would postpone its annual meeting of stockholders, which was scheduled to be held August 10. A new date has not yet been announced. It was not clear why the board decided to reschedule that meeting. 1400

The earthquake on the Indonesian island of Lombok killed 387 people, authorities said Saturday, increasing the death toll from the temblor seven days ago.An additional 13,688 were injured and 378,067 people displaced, according to Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency. The Red Cross has said aid was struggling to reach the northern parts of the island due to debris from the quake and the ongoing risk of landslides."A lot of people are displaced, and many have migrated to the hilly and mountainous areas because of fear of a tsunami," Red Cross representative Husni Husni said.Relief agencies have warned the full impact of the earthquake may take days to become known. 690

The CEOs of T-Mobile and Sprint are confident that their proposed merger will get approval from US regulators and create jobs — and that it won't raise prices for wireless subscribers.T-Mobile's John Legere and Sprint's Marcelo Claure told CNN's Richard Quest on Monday that the merger of the two companies would make it easier for them to build out a national, high-speed 5G network before their rivals Verizon and AT&T do."The country needs 5G," Claure said. He said the United States can't fall further behind China and South Korea, which are ahead in deploying 5G technology. 591

The five suspects accused of abusing 11 children at a New Mexico compound were training them to commit school shootings, prosecutors said Wednesday. If the defendants were to "be released from custody, there is a substantial likelihood defendants may commit new crimes due to their planning and preparation for future school shootings," according to the court filings. The complaints did not provide further details about the alleged training.Allegations against the suspects come in the wake of the discovery that 11 starving children had been living in a filthy compound in Amalia, New Mexico, that lacked electricity or plumbing.Authorities raided the compound on Friday as part of their search for Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj, a child with severe medical problems who was allegedly abducted from Georgia by his father, Siraj Wahhaj, about nine months ago.A boy's remains were found at the compound on Monday, police said, although it is not yet clear whether the remains are those of 4-year-old Abdul-Ghani.Five adults -- including Siraj Wahhaj, another man and three women who are thought to be the children's mothers -- each face 11 charges of child abuse related to the neglect and abuse of the children.None of the defendants has been formally charged. All five defendants appeared in court Wednesday afternoon in Taos. 1324
