SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Father Joe’s Village and Connections Housing has been activated as rain is set to move in and cold temperatures continue throughout San Diego.The shelter, located at 1501 Imperial Avenue downtown, opens when the temperature is 50 degrees or below and there is a 40 percent chance of rain or exceptional weather conditions.The program, funded by the City of San Diego, provides food and shelter.CLICK HERE FOR TODAYS FORECASTThis is the second time so far this year that the shelter has opened. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hundreds of San Diego Gas and Electric customers around the Point Loma area were without power on Black Friday.The outage was reported just before 10 a.m., according to SDG&E's outage map. The outage affected more than 1,000 customers in the Ocean Beach, Midway, and Point Loma areas.Lindbergh Field was listed under the affected areas, but the airport told 10News they were not aware of any issues.By 6 p.m., power was restored to all customers, except for 11 households, according to SDG&E.Crews say they needed to repair a piece of equipment.10News has reached out to SDG&E for more information. 637
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Foreign ambassadors from around the world made their way to San Diego to visit the border and see how the US handles security Monday. Rolling down a gravel road, at the US-Mexico border, a van carried several foreign ambassadors to the US. The group, part of more than 30, came to San Diego for the State Department’s “Experience America Program.” Monday’s stop – a 14-mile stretch of newly constructed primary and secondary border wall just east of Otay Mesa. As the ambassadors approached, work was being done in the hope of finishing the project by January. “Today we’ve been told how you are protecting the US-Mexico border,” said Javlon Vahobov, Uzbekistan Ambassador to the United States.Like the Uzbekistan Ambassador, this is their first time to California. Border issues top of mind in his home country. “For a country that is located in the heart of central Asia, and surrounded by all 5 central Asian countries- including Afghanistan.”Agents describing how they protect the border, from the construction of the walls, to agents and technology. “Struggling with smuggling of narcotics, fighting trafficking persons. Those issues that have been shared today are very accurate, accurate for the region, for Uzbekistan itself,” said Vahobov. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Forbes has released its list of America’s best employers of 2018 and two San Diego employers made the list.Both Qualcomm and the County of San Diego made the list coming in at 111 and 268.According to Forbes, Qualcomm employs more than 30,000 people and the County of San Diego employs over 20,000 people.Qualcomm made headlines recently after news that President Trump blocked Broadcom’s 7 billion bid to buy the company citing national security concerns.
