SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A new interactive map produced by San Diego County officials shows the cities and communities hardest hit by the coronavirus.The county launched its COVID-19 case rate map on Thursday, and it uses a color tier system similar to the state’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” reopening plan.Users can look at case rates per 100,000 residents in specific areas or search by ZIP code.County Public Health Officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, “Cities had previously requested the map to determine how they are faring during the pandemic. The map gives cities a clearer picture of how COVID-19 is impacting their residents and will help them determine whether to take more aggressive actions to enforce the public health guidance to slow the spread of the virus.”San Diego County tallied a record 661 coronavirus cases on Nov. 10. Purple tier-related restrictions take effect midnight on Saturday, Nov. 14.Many nonessential businesses will be required to move to outdoor-only operations. These include restaurants, family entertainment centers, wineries, places of worship, movie theaters, museums, gyms, zoos, aquariums and cardrooms.The restrictions include closing amusement parks. Bars, breweries and distilleries will be able to remain open as long as they are able to operate outside and with food on the same ticket as alcohol.Retail businesses and shopping centers will be able to remain open with 25% of the building's capacity. No food courts will be permitted.Schools will be able to remain open for in-person learning if they are already in session. If a district has not reopened for in-person learning, it must remain remote only. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report shows that the San Diego Unified School District in 2017 saw significant grade-level gains in reading and math scores.The program, called the National Assessment of Education Progress, or NAEP, shows that San Diego is the only large urban district in the nation to see significant test score increases in fourth-grade reading and math.San Diego Unified also performed significantly higher than public schools in large cities in both fourth and eighth-grade math and reading.The 2017 results mitigate a significant score drop in fourth-grade math in 2015, which the district says is due to the implementation of Common Core.The district said Tuesday that long-term data shows a generally upward trend overall.“San Diego Unified stands out as a hub of academic excellence and innovation, where students learn and thrive thanks to the dedication of our teachers,” said Superintendent Cindy Marten. “The NAEP results underscore the incredible teaching and learning that’s occurring in San Diego Unified schools every day.” 1064

Duncan Hunter’s attorney to the United States Deputy Attorney General discussed possible evidence of extramarital infidelity and excessive drinking.On August 6, Hunter attorney Gregory A. Vega wrote to Rod Rosenstein at the Department of Justice requesting the postponement of this week's campaign fund misuse indictment, and addressed “an overly aggressive prosecution intent on criminalizing content that is civil in nature”.“While there may be evidence of infidelity, irresponsibility, or alcohol dependence, once properly understood, the underlying facts do not equate to criminal activity; these allegations are, however, intended to embarrass and humiliate the Congressman shortly before a crucial election, and also to alienate him from his wife, the only other person under investigation and his intended co-defendant,” wrote Vega.Prosecutors allege the Hunters used more than 0,000 in campaign funds to support a lavish lifestyle and reported the purchases as campaign expenses.The affidavit detailed money spent on hotel rooms for different individuals and various social outings, including one involving 30 shots of tequila. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Carlos family hit hard by the pandemic is picking up the pieces after a fire gutted their home.Raegan Gaedke's brother shot cellphone video of smoke pouring out of their home on Verlane Drive on Sunday evening. Minutes before, Raegan, 16, and her brother Ryley, 17, had returned home from a grocery run, before discovering smoke in their parents' bedroom."Ran and got my dog out. My brother turned off the power and got the fire extinguisher, but it was too late. The fire spread too much," said Gaedke.Their mom Cyndi, who was visiting relatives, says fire crews later told them the cause was a window air conditioner. The home they had been renting for the last 12 years is a total loss."So hard for me to comprehend we have nothing. It's all gone," said Cyndi.Cyndi says they did not have renters insurance. It's a purchase set to the side."You think you'll get back to it, and you don't. Won't make that mistake again. It's hard to describe how stressful this has been," said Cyndi.The stress levels already high since the start of the pandemic. Cyndi's husband, the breadwinner of the family and a commercial fisherman, has been out of work. His job counted on now-grounded international flights for shipping. The amount of money they family is receiving from unemployment is modest. Paying the rent had become a concern."We did have quite a bit of savings, but that's all gone. it's been tough and awful.
