Chesterfield is a high-poverty, rural community. It's a problem faced by educators in states across the U.S.“At this school, we're probably about 70 to 72 percent high poverty,” Goodwin says.In South Carolina, he says there is a direct correlation between poverty and test scores.It means schools feel the need to do more with less. If Melton could send one message to the nation’s politicians, it’s this.“I would implore them to rethink some of the decisions they made to allocate things for education,” she says. “Every child deserves an opportunity to learn just like everyone else, no matter where you’re from, no matter where your parents are from or how much money your parents make. The Federal Aviation Administration will begin its own investigation of a deadly plane crash at an airport in Addison, Texas, in which a private plane crashed into a hangar Sunday killing all 10 people aboard, the FAA said in a statement.Addison spokesman Ed Martelle told CNN that the private plane was leaving the airport when it veered into the hangar before bursting into flames Sunday morning shortly after 9 a.m. local time.National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Bruce Landsberg told reporters during a news conference Sunday night that two victims were members of the flight crew and the other eight were passengers on the Beechcraft Super King Air 350 aircraft.The victims have not yet been identified as authorities are still notifying their families, Landsberg said.Members of the NTSB arrived on the scene to investigate the crash Sunday afternoon and began assessing the damage to the plane immediately, Jennifer Rodi, senior air safety investigator with the NTSB, told reporters.The plane suffered damage from the force of the impact and the fire that broke out after the crash, Rodi said.Rodi said the NTSB is aware of three videos of the incident and is currently reviewing them. She urged anyone else with video to send it to the NTSB for review.The plane was scheduled to fly from Addison -- about 15 miles north of Dallas -- to St. Petersburg, Florida, Martelle said.But just after take off the plane veered and crashed into a private hangar, damaging two aircraft inside, Landsberg said.The fire department was just 220 yards from the crash, Martelle added, so the response was immediate and the fire in the hangar was extinguished.No cause for the crash is known but a preliminary report is expected in two weeks, Landsberg said.Landsberg said the plane recently changed owners and the tail number information was not immediately available.Eight investigators with the NTSB arrived Sunday and five more specialists are on their way to assist in the investigation, Landsberg said. 2018

The Inspector General released a report on Tuesday that contained photos of severe overcrowding inside two Texas border processing centers. The Inspector General toured the facilities during the week of June 10. In the report, inspectors expressed concern over the safety and health of both agents and detainees. “We are concerned that overcrowding and prolonged detention represent an immediate risk to the health and safety of DHS agents and officers, and to those detained,” the report said. “At the time of our visits, Border Management told us there had already been security incidents among adult males at multiple facilities. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating religious discrimination claims against two airports because plans for Chick-fil-A restaurants were scrapped after complaints about the fast food chain's stance on LGBTQ issues."The Department of Transportation has received complaints alleging discrimination by two airport operators against a private company due to the expression of the owner's religious beliefs," an FAA statement said."FAA's Office of Civil Rights has notified the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) and Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) that it has opened investigations into these complaints. The FAA notes that Federal requirements prohibit airport operators from excluding persons on the basis of religious creed from participating in airport activities that receive or benefit from FAA grant funding."CNN has reached out to officials at both airports for comment.Chick-fil-A said in a statement released to CNN that the company is not involved in the investigation. "We are a restaurant company ... and we have no social or political stance," the company said.
