A canceled chase in Akron, Ohio ended in a two-car crash with both drivers being arrested on warrants, according to police.Police said the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at an intersection.Police said they got behind a red Hyundai that was stolen and tried to pull the driver over when he took off. The driver reached speeds of around 80 mph when a supervisor canceled the chase. Police said the driver continued to accelerate and 30 seconds later they found the car crashed. The Hyundai hit a minivan and then a pole, a fire hydrant, another pole, before eventually coming to rest next door to an Akron fire station. The Hyundai was shredded in the crash leaving its trunk lid in a parking lot, part of its door wrapped around a traffic light pole and a wheel a hundred feet away.The driver of the stolen Hyundai had warrants and will be taken to jail after he is released from the hospital with what police say are minor injuries.The driver of the minivan was also a wanted felon and he will also be arrested after he is released from the hospital with what police say were minor injuries.  1131

A Detroit nonprofit says it was denied service because of the city it's located in.Franklin Wright Settlement has been in business for more than 134 years on the east side of Detroit, and says a bounce house company would not deliver to the city because of safety issues.Deon Mullen, director of the Franklin Wright Settlement, said he tried to rent a bounce house for an annual event for kids, but says Awesome Bounce in Canton told him no."I was quite surprised," he said.Awesome Bounce sent Mullen an email saying the company does not service Detroit because of employees being robbed and equipment being stolen and damaged in the past. Mullen said he was offended by the email and said not all of Detroit is dangerous. He said he feels the owner's decision is bad business.Mullen said he is most upset at a certain part of the owner's response, where he states he feels sorry for the deserving children who were born into one place and not another. He also doesn't feel that the issue of safety is a valid excuse."It can happen anywhere," Mullen said. "In any suburban community, crime can happen."The owner offered to sell Mullen a used bounce house.Mullen said he understands a businessman's concerns about employee's safety, but labeling all of Detroit as bad was something that didn't sit well with him. 1339

A Fort Myers, Florida woman was maced in her face while working at the McDonald's on Cleveland Avenue.This happened Saturday evening. Alisha Irons, 24, was arrested and charged with battery."My eyes were swollen, and I couldn't even open them for two days," Tatiana Green, 24, said.The the victim said Irons, the girl who maced her, used to be her best friend. "She sprayed it in my eyes. It burnt so bad, I couldn't see," Green said.Green told Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers it started Thursday when Iron's cousin took her bank card. Green said she reported it to Fort Myers Police. On Saturday, she said Irons showed up during her shift at McDonald's and used bear mace."Anything could have happened to me. I could have went blind. And it was so humiliating because I had to come out of my clothes, and I'm in my bra and panties, and I'm running around on fire," Green said."To be helpless, I started pouring water and soap on her to cool off and that's something no mother should have to go through," Green's mom, Crystal Hayes, said.When initially asked for a comment, Irons referred WFTX to a rap video of herself she posted on Facebook.She also posted a message saying "I don't regret anything ... The only thing I'll do different is mace the (expletive) when she clocked out, simple."Irons has since bonded out of jail and lives next door to Green."I could hear her door shutting and it's terrifying, because I don't know what else she's going to do to me," Green said.Fort Myers Police said a girl claiming to be related to Green was arrested after showing up to Irons' apartment and firing a gunshot in the air. A COVID-19 vaccine candidate being produced by biotech company Moderna has shown to be 94.5% effective in Phase 3 clinical trials, the company said Monday.The news means that the company is on track to request Emergency Use Authorization status for the drug in the coming weeks. The vaccine is already being mass-produced and thousands of doses will be ready to ship following authorization.Moderna's vaccine is closely tied with "Operation Warp Speed," a Trump administration program that provided nearly billion in government funding for research and support, and placed the vaccine on an FDA fast-track.On Aug. 11, the Department of Health and Human Services announced it was paying .5 billion ".5 billion in funds to support the large-scale manufacturing and delivery" for 100 million doses of Moderna's vaccine candidate.Moderna said Monday that 20 million doses of its vaccine will be available to ship by the end of 2020, and is on track to produce between 500 million and 1 billion doses in 2021.Health experts believe that a vaccine will be available to some people by the end of 2020, and will be widely available in spring 2021.
