(KGTV) -- A Santee business is empowering veterans to help heal themselves and become independent with yoga.The veterans behind the program say it’s a union of mind and body that can also lead to a paycheck. The business is called Hot Yoga and it’s located in Santee.The business was opened two years ago by Marine veteran John Szczepanowski. John is a combat veteran whose service spans decades including the Persian Gulf in 1989 and later in Iraq and Afghanistan.John retired from the military in 2014 and discovered yoga a year later thanks to a friend. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The amount of snow blanketing the Sierra Nevada is even larger than the 2017 snowpack that pulled the state out of a five-year drought, California water officials said.As of Thursday, the snowpack measured 202% of average after a barrage of storms throughout winter and spring, according to the Department of Water Resources.The wet weather has slowed but not stopped, with thunderstorms prompting flash flood warnings Sunday in the central and southern parts of the state.At this time last year, the snowpack measured 6% of average — making this year 33 times bigger than 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.In 2017, the snowpack measured 190% of average.The snowpack supplies about 30 percent of state water needs.In the Tahoe Basin, Squaw Valley ski resort has seen so much snow it plans to keep its slopes open until least July 5. In May alone, Squaw recorded 37 inches (94 centimeters).State officials consider the most important snowpack measurement to be the one taken around April 1 because that's typically when storm activity subsides."And then after that the sun's highest position in the sky contributes to rapid melting. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Jorge Ortiz, a 50-year-old construction worker, was taking no chances as Tropical Storm Dorian approached Puerto Rico on Tuesday and threatened to hit the island's western and central region at near-hurricane strength.Wiping sweat from his brow, Ortiz climbed up a shaky ladder under the punishing morning sun and tied down pieces of zinc that now serve as his roof because Hurricane Maria ripped the second floor off his house when the Category 4 storm hit in September 2017.He was forced to rebuild everything himself and finished just three months ago with no assistance from the local or federal government."They told me I didn't qualify because it was a total loss," he said, shaking his head as he added that he was wary about Dorian. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A broken water main damaged a Santee street and flooded at least one nearby business early Friday morning.At around 3:45 a.m., authorities were called to Prospect Avenue and Cuyamaca Street in response to a water coming out of the roadway.The water blasted out of the street and flooded an auto repair business. At least six vehicles were partially submerged due to the rising water.By 4:15 a.m., authorities were able to shut off the water and begin road repairs.A city official said they believe the overnight temperature change may have caused the water main break.ABC 10News learned repairs are expected to last throughout the day.The public is asked to avoid the area of Prospect Avenue and Cuyamaca Street, as lanes have been closed. 772

(KGTV) - Traffic at the San Ysidro Port of Entry was left at a standstill for more than an hour following a reported security incident Saturday.Multiple lanes through the port were closed following the find, 10News viewer video showed. Witnesses at the scene told 10News border security officials were reportedly looking into a suspicious object left on the Mexican side of the border crossing.One witness told 10News they had been waiting at least an hour for traffic to open up as of 1:10 p.m.10NEWS TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News has reached out to Border Patrol officials for more information.
