LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A car burst into flames after a crash in La Mesa early Sunday morning. According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened on SR-94 near the 125 before 3:30 a.m. CHP says the driver was speeding on SR-94 west when he tried merging onto the 125 on-ramp. The man then lost control and flipped several times before the car went up in flames. Witnesses stopped to help, but the man was able to get out of the vehicle on his own. The driver was able to escape the crash with only minor injuries. CHP says he is being checked for DUI. Traffic was shut down on the 125 on-ramp for a short time after the crash, but was reopened before 6 a.m. 676

LINDA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Police arrested a man after an hours-long standoff in Linda Vista Wednesday night. It happened in an apartment at the end of Via Las Cumbres, near Kelly Street. Police say they were there to serve an arrest warrant on a man suspected of illegally possessing a loaded firearm. Officers on scene repeatedly asked the man to exit the apartment over a megaphone, but he remained inside. Around 9 p.m., officers used a battering ram to break down the front door. They brought out the man in handcuffs and placed him in a patrol vehicle. Lt. Danny Grubbs said they had tried to arrest the man several times before but he was able to get away. In one of those attempts, Grubbs said the man led CHP on a chase through Mission Valley but ended up crashing his van into the San Diego River. He escaped through a drainage ditch, evading capture. Shortly after the project began, the shed collapsed.The worker was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. 406

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A La Mesa woman is recovering after she says she was attacked during the protest on Saturday night. Eleyna Bedolla said she was not protesting and she is not sure if the man that attacked her was a protester. Bedolla told 10News she heard commotion in her neighborhood so she went for a walk to check out what was happening. When she noticed the demonstration, she said she started to make her way back home along Palm Avenue. That's when a man approached her with a baseball bat and asked her, "Who the hell do you think you are?"Bedolla said she told the man she was trying to get home, but she said he grabbed her and threw her into the street, hitting her with a bat in the leg. He also tried to hit her head, but Bedolla said she was able to protect herself with her hand. She suffered a broken hand and large bruising on her legs. According to Bedolla, La Mesa police were nearby and officers were able to arrest the man. She wants others to be careful when deciding to go out and protest. 10News reached out to the La Mesa Police Department to ask about the arrest, but so far have not heard back. 1139
