What does it look like when galaxies collide? The Hubble Telescope captured a unique sight as two galaxies are in the process of merging.NASA says the galaxy, called NGC 1614, is about 200 million light-years from Earth and is the result of a “galactic merger” which has created a unique appearance. They call it “eccentrically shaped” and “ablaze with activity” in a statement on NASA’s website. It sits in the constellation of Eridanus. The result of the cosmic collision is a flow of interstellar gas from the smaller galaxy into the nucleus of the larger one, “resulting in a burst of star formation that started in the core and has slowly spread outward through the galaxy,” NASA says.Astronomers say NGC 1614 is one of the most luminous objects in the local universe. 780
WILBRAHAM, Mass. (AP) — Friendly’s Restaurants, an East Coast dining chain known for its Fribble milkshake and ice cream sundaes, is filing for bankruptcy protection. All 130 of its locations will remain open while it restructures under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.Substantially all of its assets are being sold to the restaurant company, Amici Partners Group.“Over the last two years, Friendly’s has made important strides toward reinvigorating our beloved brand in the face of shifting demographics, increased competition, and rising costs,” said George Michel, the company's CEO. “We achieved this by delivering menu innovation, re-energizing marketing, focusing on take-out, catering and third-party delivery, establishing a better overall experience for customers, and working closely with our franchisees and restaurant teams. Unfortunately, like many restaurant businesses, our progress was suddenly interrupted by the catastrophic impact of COVID-19, which caused a decline in revenue as dine-in operations ceased for months and re-opened with limited capacity."The pandemic has hit the restaurant sector hard, particularly those that rely on people in their dining rooms. At least 10 chains have filed for bankruptcy protection since the pandemic began this year. But Friendly’s Restaurant, like most other chains that have stumbled this year, had been struggling. The Wilbraham, Massachusetts, company filed for bankruptcy protection in 2011 as well. 1470
When Sen. Bernie Sanders did this in 2013, he did it alone. On Wednesday, nearly four years later, Sanders introduced a new "Medicare for all" health care bill with a third of the Senate Democratic caucus by his side.Flanked at first by New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Sanders called the costs of the current system "insane and unaffordable," promising that the average family would benefit financially under his plan "because you will no longer be writing checks to private insurance companies."For those whose taxes would go up, he added, "that expense will be more than offset by the money are you are saving with the elimination of private insurance costs." 710

When we hear our phone go off and see an unknown number, we're not very likely to answer, but that habit is creating some issues for contact tracers.People are hired to get in touch with anyone who's been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.With people not answering calls from contact tracers, controlling the coronavirus becomes more difficult. But it doesn't mean contact tracers give up.“In some cases, when contact tracers call someone, and that person is uncomfortable talking to them on the phone, in some counties, they will actually send someone to that person's home to conduct an in-person interview, if they're more comfortable doing that,” said Steve Waters, founder and CEO of CONTRACE.Even when contact tracers do manage to get someone on the phone, it can be difficult to get information from them. This is a result of all the spam calls trying to scam people. That's why contact tracers say it's all about establishing trust in that cold call.“If you have a cultural understanding of the people that you are calling, that goes a long way to begin with,” said Waters. “I think you are more likely to be trusting of someone who has the demeanor and cultural understanding of your region, than somewhere across the country.”CONTRACE was founded when coronavirus cases started popping up in the U.S. It helps public and private groups with contact tracing efforts. The group encourages every state and local government to work with phone providers to help people know that calls are coming from contact tracers.Ideally, the call would be identified as the local health department or contact tracing program. 1650
