The CDC has recently issued guidance as it says some communities could have rodents aggressively trying to find new sources of food due to coronavirus-related restaurant closures. As restaurants closed nationwide, the supply of food for some rodents was cut off, especially in dense, commercial areas. With life returning to normal, these rodents could be acting aggressively in order to find food. “Some jurisdictions have reported an increase in rodent activity as rodents search for new sources of food,” the CDC said. “Environmental health and rodent control programs may see an increase in service requests related to rodents and reports of unusual or aggressive rodent behavior.”The CDC said that it is not uncommon after disasters such as hurricanes to see a decline in rodent population, following by an increase when life returns back to normal. The CDC said that residents and businesses should eliminate conditions that may attract and support rodent presence. The CDC recommends sealing up access into homes and businesses, removing debris and heavy vegetation, keeping garbage in tightly covered bins, and removing pet and bird food from their yards.According to the CDC, rodents are capable of spreading up to 35 different infectious diseases. These diseases can be spread directly to humans by rodent feces, urine, or saliva, or through rodent bites, or indirectly through ticks, mites or fleas that have fed on an infected rodent. 1458

The general manager of a Burger King restaurant in Florida was told by a customer to "go back to Mexico" if he wanted to keep speaking Spanish. The exchange, captured in a video that was later posted on social media, shows Ricardo Castillo, who is of Puerto Rican descent, being berated by two unidentified women as they are eating in the restaurant in Eustis, 40 miles north of Orlando."You're in America, you should speak American English," one woman can be heard saying, to which Castillo replies "No ma'am, I don't." 531

Ten candidates are on the stage this time, down from 12 at the debate in October. Julián Castro, a former secretary of Housing and Urban Development, did not meet the party's qualification standards for this debate, and former Congressman Beto O'Rourke of Texas dropped out of the race. This debate arrives at a time of volatility in early-state polling. South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg faced increased scrutiny after a Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom poll showed him leading in Iowa, the first voting state. Former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign has suggested that he plans to use the debate to attack Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts over her position on health care. And Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont remains firmly in the top tier of national and state polls. The other candidates participating in the debate are Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, Sen. Kamala Harris of California, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, billionaire investor Tom Steyer and businessman Andrew Yang.Sanders on US health care spendingSen. Bernie Sanders said the US has a health care system "in which we spend twice as much as do the people of any other country."Facts First: This is not true. The US spent twice as much per capita on health care last year than the average for Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) countries, but not twice as much as every single one of the organization's 35 other members. At ,586 per capita in 2018, US spending was well over twice the 1538

The Department of Homeland Security has suspended all flights between the U.S. and Venezuela.Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan determined that conditions in Venezuela threaten the safety and security of passengers, aircraft, and crew, requiring an immediate suspension of all commercial passenger and cargo flights between the United States and Venezuela. The Secretary of State has approved flight suspension and the Secretary of Transportation has implemented the determination. The move is based on ongoing political instability and increased tensions in the country, and associated inadvertent risk to flight operations, a press release said.According to DHS, if and when the conditions in Venezuela change, and if in the public interest, the Secretaries will revisit this determination. Until then, the flight suspension will remain in effect indefinitely. 892

The observatory atop the Empire State Building has a dizzying new look with floor-to-ceiling, 360-degree windows 102 floors above New York City. The remodeled observatory opens to the public Saturday. It was unveiled to the media Thursday.More than 4 million annual visitors to the 1931 Art Deco skyscraper — about 60% from abroad — will be offered an unobstructed view of the city and far beyond through panoramic floor-to-ceiling sheets of glass. They replace old windows that were half the size. For a nocturnal view of New York, visitors have until 1:15 a.m. to take a new, high-speed, translucent elevator to the 102nd floor. Now visible from the interior on the way up are the building’s tower lights, whose colors change daily to celebrate holidays or people. On the way up to the high new perch are an additional 10,000 square feet (930 sq. meters) of fresh exhibits, including a replica of the moving hand of King Kong, the monster gorilla in the 1933 film that climbs the building, plunging to its death amid an attack by Helldiver military planes. Also on display are photos of actors in movies shot there. The cost to get to the observatory at 1,250 feet (380 meters) above Fifth Avenue has not changed. But now, visitors are promised shorter lines that have often stretched out onto Fifth Avenue, spilling into an elbow-to-elbow lobby crowd before even getting into an elevator. The entrance to the observatories has been switched to the side of the building on West 34th Street, where added security stations help move the crowd along. Tickets may be purchased at electronic kiosks installed only last year, in addition to online purchases. The building also has remodeled its famous open-air observatory on the 86th floor, which still requires a ticket. Walls were opened between the interior space and the open-air terrace so city views emerge immediately after exiting the elevators. The four-year project cost 5 million and was financed by Empire State Realty Trust Inc.Remodeling was a daunting task, said project manager Robert Krizman.Workers mounted metal baskets suspended outside the 103rd floor, wearing harnesses attached to the building. From there, they removed defunct broadcast antennas weighing 200 pounds each, jutting out from the top and bottom of the old windows.Their work station was an aluminum and wood cocoon ringing the 102nd floor for months while the old walls were demolished. 2435
