SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - 10News is learning more about how suspected Poway shooter John Earnest got the weapon. On Thursday, investigators revealed that they believe he got his rifle from a licensed dealer.In federal documents released on Thursday, prosecutors report, “The firearm was manufactured by Smith & Wesson in Princeton, Illinois and shipped to Springfield, Massachusetts where it was assembled. The firearm was ultimately transferred, via Fort Worth, Texas, to a Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) Dealer in San Diego, California, which sold the firearm to Earnest. Earnest picked up the rifle on April 26, 2019.”That was the day before the shooting.In a press conference on Thursday, Southern District of California U.S. Attorney Shane Harrigan told reporters, “I can say that there is no allegation that the defendant violated federal law when he acquired the rifle that he used in the violent attack on the synagogue.”Questions still remain as to whether state law was violated. Earnest is only 19 years-old.California law requires that adults be over 21 years-old before they can buy a firearm, unless they have a hunting license, are current or former military, or are in law enforcement.Prosecutors wouldn't comment on whether Earnest had a hunting license. “That allegation isn't in the complaint but please understand that as the criminal process moves forward, more information may be available to the public,” added Harrigan.District Attorney Summer Stephan originally said that the rifle had been obtained legally, but when pressed on Wednesday by 10News, she didn't provide a clear answer. “I don't want to [comment any further] because it's a pending case,” she said.At Thursday’s press conference, a reporter asked the federal prosecution about when Earnest purchased his 60 rounds of ammunition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -  A driver led CHP officers on an hour-long pursuit from Southern Orange County to Mission Valley Wednesday night.The chase ended on the onramp from southbound I-805 to westbound I-8.Ray Scheidnes, with California Highway Patrol, says the chase started in the San Juan Capistrano area when they received reports of someone driving erratically just after 6:30 p.m.When they tried to pull over the driver, she instead drove south on I-5 into San Diego County and eventually onto I-8.  The driver even called into 9-1-1 dispatch and tried to explain why she wasn't stopping.“I believe that she was afraid to pull over, mentioned something about possibly having some previous run-ins with law enforcement that she didn't think went too well,” Scheidnes said.Scheidnes also added they’re not quite sure why she eventually stopped in Mission Valley.“The vehicle didn't seem to run out of gas or have any mechanical problems, just came to a stop, I think she just decided to pull over,” he said.CHP says the driver is an Orange County resident. She has not been identified. There are no immediate signs of drugs or alcohol, but she could be facing charges of resisting arrest and failure to yield.  1247

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family moving from Philadelphia to San Diego says they had their belongings stolen within the first 30 minutes of being here.The family says it all happened in the parking lot of a Target store in Mission Valley. The cargo carrier atop their car, stolen from the roof.The family says they think the suspects who stole the items may be professionals. Michael Kaminis says he thinks the thieves knew what they were doing when they unhooked the carrier without leaving a mark. “I was in shock, the kids were crying.”Kaminis says despite the setback, his family is staying positive. “You can’t let a thing like this deter a big life decision, they’re still on board, they love the idea of San Diego. You can’t let things like this shake your faith in humanity and people.” 798

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Weather forecasters are warning of "near-critical fire weather conditions" Sunday evening through Tuesday morning in San Diego County because of developing Santa Ana winds."Areas west of the mountains will see a sharp rise in temperatures early this week," the National Weather Service said, "with coastal locations potentially experiencing their hottest conditions so far this year."Inland areas and especially deserts will remain very warm through Thursday, the NWS said, before widespread cooling takes hold late in the week.Early morning satellite images showed widespread clouds extending to the coastal slopes, but much thinner than Saturday and with less uniform coverage, forecasters said. With clouds breaking up, clearer skies Sunday afternoon will allow temperatures to rise several degrees higher than on Saturday.Santa Ana winds will strengthen on Monday, with maximum gusts of 40 to 45 mph as humidity plummets, resulting in elevated fire weather conditions, the NWS said. Highs near 80 and 90 for coastal and inland valleys are expected."Model guidance suggests coastal highs on Tuesday could be the hottest so far this year, climbing well into the 80s." forecasters said. "Depending on the timing of the return to onshore flow, it's conceivable for some coastal cities to reach the low 90s.""All in all, temperatures will be around 20 degrees above normal at the coast, and 10-15 degrees above normal for inland valleys, where temperatures may near 100 degrees in spots," they said.Off the coast of San Diego County, gusty winds and large combined seas will create hazardous boating conditions through Monday morning. Northwest winds will increase Sunday afternoon and evening, with gusts 25-40 knots in both the inner and outer waters, forecasters said.A small-craft advisory remains in effect through Monday morning. 1860
