WASHINGTON — The government’s cybersecurity agency is expressing increased alarm about a hack of computer systems in the U.S. and around the globe that officials suspect was carried out by Russia.The cybersecurity unit of the Department of Homeland Security says the hack “poses a grave risk” to the U.S. government and state and local governments as well as critical infrastructure and private business.The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency announced the SolarWinds Orion vulnerability that was disclosed this week as the compromised piece of software, was not the only way that hackers were able to get into government agencies, private companies and critical infrastructures over the last several months."CISA has determined that this threat poses a grave risk to the Federal Government and state, local, tribal, and territorial governments as well as critical infrastructure entities and other private sector organizations," the alert issued by the agency said. "CISA expects that removing this threat actor from compromised environments will be highly complex and challenging for organizations."The U.S. Energy Department is the latest government unit to announce they had systems compromised in the hack.The department says the impact of the hack appears to be “isolated to business networks” and "has not impacted the mission essential national security functions of the Department, including the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA)," which manages the country’s stockpile of nuclear weapons.It’s not just government agencies, Microsoft is reporting in a blog post more than 40 customers around the world appear to have been targeted in the hack.The hack creates a fresh foreign policy problem for President Donald Trump in his final days in office.President Trump has not made public comments regarding the hack, or the government’s response to Russia or whoever may be responsible. Virginia Beach Police are investigating a shooting that seriously injured two people early Sunday morning.Officers were alerted to multiple shots fired in the area around 12:45 a.m. A woman was located and suffering from a life-threatening wound. Medics treated the woman and took her to the hospital.A few minutes later at 12:48 a.m., officers received word that a victim with life-threatening injuries was located in several blocks away. EMS treated and took the victim to the hospital for further treatment.A possible suspect has been detained and the investigation is ongoing.Prior to this shooting, police responded to another shooting at the 1900 block of the Boardwalk. A woman suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.There is an increased police presence throughout the oceanfront area due to College Beach Weekend. That's according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person says the civil complaint points to the role Walmart’s pharmacies may have played in the crisis by filling opioid prescriptions and by unlawfully distributing controlled substances to the pharmacies during the height of the opioid crisis. The lawsuit claims Walmart wanted to boost profits and pressured employees to fill prescriptions quickly, according to the Wall Street Journal. “Walmart knew that its distribution centers were using an inadequate system for detecting and reporting suspicious orders,” said Jason Dunn, the U.S. attorney in Colorado. “As a result of this inadequate system, for years Walmart reported virtually no suspicious orders at all. In other words, Walmart’s pharmacies ordered opioids in a way that went essentially unmonitored and unregulated.”Walmart operates more than 5,000 pharmacies in its stores around the country. The Justice Department’s action comes nearly two months after Walmart filed its own preemptive suit against the federal government.
