PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A Florida woman is recovering after being stung by a poisonous caterpillar at a local park. Now, she wants to share her experience with hopes of keeping others safe.Tara Forbes said she was at Whispering Pines Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida last weekend watching her son play on the playground. She was sitting on a bench under an oak tree when she said she felt a burning sensation on her arm.“My arm was out on the bench ... I thought maybe I was getting a little sunburn,” Forbes said. “I looked down and I had black and white fuzz here, and white fuzz on the inside. It just immediately felt like fire, like somebody took a flame to my skin.”That fuzz, she said, was from a poisonous puss caterpillar. She doesn’t know if it fell from the tree, where they are known to live, or if it was already on the bench where she was sitting. The pain spread to her bones and joints and became excruciating, she said.“My arm swelled up from my finger tips to my shoulder up into my neck and even into my chest.”She also became dizzy and nauseous.Forbes is a nurse and knew which symptoms to watch for to determine if she should go to the emergency room. In hindsight, she said she would go if she were to get stung again to better control the pain. That is why she wants her message to reach parents.“I think if this happened to my son or somebody else’s child they should go directly to the ER because it was very painful ... Children are so much smaller, so it could affect them much worse.”More than 24 hours after making contact with the caterpillar, Forbes was still in some pain. “I think it would be good for other parents just to be aware that when you’re enjoying the outdoors like we did, these things could happen. Know to seek medical help immediately when it does happen.”She said she used tape to pull the hairs out of her skin.A spokesperson with the city of Port St. Lucie said staff from the parks department checked out the park for poisonous caterpillars after Forbes’ report was brought to their attention. They did not find any of the caterpillars but said they will be returning Tuesday to look again. The spokesperson said city crews check all city parks daily for any potential hazards. 2241

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) — The former Stoneridge Country Club in Poway is finally about to get cleaned up.It appears voters have approved new housing on the land, which has turned into a beat-up, overgrown mess. But that's not what Kevin McNamara, managing partner of The Farm in Poway, sees."I think the plan is beautiful. It's going to be a great place to live. It will be a great addition to North Poway," McNamara said.McNamara is celebrating the apparent passage of Measure P, which approves changing the zoning on the old golf course to allow for more housing. The current owner of the land, Michael Schlesinger of Beverly Hills, also wanted to build homes at Stoneridge. But voters defeated his plan in 2017. The next day, Schlesinger shut down the long-running club.McNamara thought he could come up with a better plan, and he thought he knew how to get Poway voters on board. He negotiated an option with Schlesinger to buy the land if voters said yes.He put the whole plan together before getting the concept on the ballot."They thought I was nuts because it's a million dollars. This was a big bet," McNamara said.He called his gamble The Farm in Poway. He first showed ABC 10News the plan in 2018: 160 homes, along with features like community gardens, trails, a club, and a butterfly farm.McNamara spent nearly two years meeting with every Poway resident he could to convince them it was the right use of the land."I thought it would be real close. I was confident, but I thought it would be close. I had no idea it would be a total blowout," said McNamara. Now, he says, it's time to go to work. And the first step is keeping a promise he made to the neighbors."Next Thursday, we start the cleanup. We're going to mow it, the whole place. We're going to clean out all the dead shrubs, the broken trees. We're going to do a real thorough cleanup," McNamara said.He expects to officially take over the property next spring and have the first homes ready for families to move in by the end of 2022. 2010

President Donald Trump plans to announce his Supreme Court nominee on Saturday. He has said it will be a woman and she will be conservative. If the nominee goes through, it would give conservative justices a 6-3 majority over their more liberal counterparts. That sets up talk about abortion, but the Roe v. Wade debate isn't all about the Supreme Court.“Enough lower courts have not decided what they think about this,” said Carol Sanger, a professor at the Columbia law school. “We, the Supreme Court, doesn't like to lead on a particular issue until the lower courts who have trials and so on have thought about it.”Under a conservative majority, the Supreme Court has ruled on an abortion case. Conservative Chief Justice John Roberts sided with a ruling that kept abortion clinics open by not requiring abortion doctors to have nearby hospital admitting privileges. The high court already ruled on a similar case out of Texas.“There is a special doctrine called stare decisis, which means when you have a case and it’s like a previous case, look to that previous case and say how did that come out,” said Sanger. “And unless there is a very, very strong reason to change that decision, you follow precedent, you follow what happened the last time this issue came up.”Sanger says enough lower courts have to rule and be split on the decision to make it to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court would need to decide it wants to take up Roe v. Wade before courts before them. Sanger believes that's unlikely to happen.“It seems pretty clear that he doesn't want to be known as the guy who had Roe knocked out under his chief justice-ship,” said Sanger. Both Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch said they accepted Roe v. Wade as the law of the land during their nomination hearings.Sanger says just because the justices on the court change, it doesn't mean they change laws all over again. 1887

Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Australian Archbishop Philip Wilson of Adelaide, the highest-ranking Catholic official ever to be convicted of covering up sex abuse. The Vatican made the announcement in a statement sent to CNN on Monday.Wilson, 67, was found guilty in May of concealing the abuse of altar boys in the 1970s by pedophile priest James Fletcher.Last week he said that he intended to appeal the ruling under the "due process of law.""Since that process is not yet complete, I do not intend to resign at this time. However, if I am unsuccessful in my appeal, I will immediately offer my resignation to the Holy See," he said.Wilson had been spared prison earlier in July and sentenced to six months' home detention in Australia because of his poor health and advanced age. There will be a hearing on August 14 to determine whether home detention is appropriate for Wilson and where he could stay, with his sister's house raised as one option. The ruling against Wilson was a landmark conviction that could have far-reaching implications for other clergy members as the child sexual abuse scandal continues to hit the Catholic Church globally.Last week Pope Francis accepted the resignation of another senior Church official, Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who once led the Archdiocese of Washington and was a force in American politics, after a decades-old allegation of sexual abuse of a teenage altar boy forced the Vatican to remove him from public ministry. The Vatican said Saturday that Pope Francis accepted McCarrick's resignation from the College of Cardinals on Friday evening and ordered him to "a life of prayer and penance until the accusations made against him are examined in a regular canonical trial." 1745

President Donald Trump once again went after Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Thursday morning during an interview on Fox Business.Trump made the comments while criticizing states who he believed had not lifted COVID-19 restrictions quickly enough."(Whitmer) wants to be a dictator in Michigan, and they can't stand her," Trump said.He added that the believed people in Michigan wanted to get back to work.Trump and Whitmer have sparred in the media for months. 470
