SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Yuma Police officer testified Tuesday in his trial for the rape of a woman in Kensington.Jared Elkins, 34, raped his wife’s cousin after a family gathering at her home on Marlborough Drive last year, prosecutors said. The group had been out to dinner, then watched a movie while drinking beer and wine at home.She testified last week, saying she didn’t yell during the alleged attack because Elkins threatened to kill her. His wife was asleep across the hall at the time.After the encounter, the woman said she ran into her mother’s room for help, and they both escaped out a window.At a hospital, the alleged victim's blood-alcohol level was determined to be .09 percent, according to witness testimony.Police said Elkins told them that the sex was consensual and the rape charges were made out of guilt.Elkins told the jury the alleged victim started flirting with him after everyone else went to sleep.“There was mutual flirtations between the two of us and we were being adults,” said Elkins, who testified the woman was “cuddling, almost snuggling” with him.“She said yeah, it was surprising to me; I was excited a younger attractive woman, you know, it kind of confirmed everything on the couch,” Elkins said.Elkins resigned from the Yuma Police Department in 2017. He is facing nine felony counts including forcible rape and could serve 14 years in prison if convicted.City News Service contributed to this report. 1462

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With one of the largest holidays of the year just a day away, getting around and conducting business before and on the holiday can be tricky to navigate with what is closed and open.The North County Transit District will have a normal service schedule for Christmas Eve. However, the Amtrak R2R partnership with NCTD -- which allows Coaster customers to travel on Amtrak trains in the San Diego area -- will be blacked out through Monday. During this time, all Amtrak Pacific Surfliner customers will be required to show a valid Amtrak fare and no COASTER passes will be accepted.NCTD schedules will be reduced to a Sunday service schedule on Christmas.The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System will run a similar schedule, with normal weekday hours Christmas Eve on all Trolley lines and MTS local, urban, Express, Rapid and Rapid Express bus routes.Christmas is more complicated. All Trolley lines except the Silver Line will operate on a half-hour frequency on Christmas Day. Rapid, urban, and local bus routes will operate on a Sunday schedule.No service will be provided on Rapid Express routes 280 or 290, Rapid routes 204, 237 and Express routes 50, 60, 110, 150, Sorrento Valley Coaster Connection and most express bus routes. MTS Access subscriptions are cancelled. Subscription passengers who still want service must call ahead of time to arrange their transportation.Finally, several rural routes have been rescheduled. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a tree and power pole in the College Area late Sunday night, leaving nearly 2,000 residents without power.At around 11:45 p.m., San Diego police’s ABLE helicopter spotted and began following a car that was running several red lights and driving fast.As SDPD units were called to the car’s location, the vehicle lost control and slammed into a tree and then a power pole in the 4700 block of 54th Street.ABC 10News learned the transformer on the power pole was damaged, causing a power outage in the immediate area for a brief period.The driver got out of the wreckage and fled the scene, but officers tracked him down a short time later and took him into custody.Police learned the car involved had been reported stolen.No other details were released. 832

Tina Camacho remembers asking her daughter Cirena Artero, 16, about her day at school."We talked, and she said her day was okay," said Camacho.Cirena is one of Camacho's five children."Around 6:45 p.m., we thought she went to her room. Around 7:30 p.m., we knew she was missing.
