WEST ALLIS -- Huey Lewis & The News has canceled all future shows as the band's lead singer and namesake deals with the sudden loss of his hearing."Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most my hearing," the singer said in a message to his fans Friday. "Although I can still hear a little, one on one, and on the phone, I can't hear music enough to sing."Lewis went on to explain that doctors believe he has "Meniere's disease," and said he should not perform until he improves."Needless to say, I feel horrible about this, and wish to sincerely apologize to all the fans who've already bought tickets and were planning to come see us," Lewis added. "[I] hope that one day soon I'll be able to perform again."Fans who already purchased tickets via credit card will receive an email with refund details. If you purchased your tickets via cash or check, you'll have to bring your original tickets to the State Fair ticket office for a refund. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. remains in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic with more than 8 million cases, spiking in multiple states, like Montana.“There are many, many people not taking this seriously and not playing their part in mitigating the spread of this virus,” said Trisha Gardner, Cascade City-County, Montana health officer. Now, there are concerns that getting COVID-19 could land you in the same category as someone with diabetes or high-blood pressure – having a preexisting condition.“This has flown under the radar to some extent,” said Dr. Eric Schneider, senior vice president of policy and research at The Commonwealth Fund, a century-old foundation that examines health policy in the U.S.Since COVID-19 can have lingering effects on people who contract it, Dr. Schenider says there’s a possibility it could be labeled as a preexisting condition. So, who decides that?“The preexisting condition language really traces to the insurance industry,” Dr. Schneider said, “really on a case by case basis, which diseases, which conditions, will actually count.”That hasn’t mattered so much lately because the Affordable Care Act – Obamacare – prohibits health insurers from denying people coverage based on preexisting conditions.Next month, though, a case before the U.S. Supreme Court could get Obamacare thrown out.If that happens, there is no official plan yet from either party to replace it, nor to protect people with preexisting conditions.“If the Supreme Court undoes that solution, there will definitely be a need for a new solution,” Dr. Schneider said. How many could be affected? The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says about 133 million people in the country currently have a preexisting condition. The Commonwealth Fund looked at how COVID-19 survivors would affect that number.Researchers excluded people who already had a preexisting condition before contracting the coronavirus, as well as anyone over the age of 65. They found that 3.4 million people who recovered from the coronavirus but never had a preexisting condition before could join the ranks of now having a preexisting condition. What’s more, based on current COVID-19 infection rates, that number is growing in the U.S. by 20,000 people a day.“That number is also tied to how well we control the pandemic,” Dr. Schneider said.So far, no insurance company has indicated it will add COVID-19 as a potential preexisting condition. However, health care policy experts warn it could all come down to what the justices decide about the health care law in next month’s case before the Supreme Court. 2603

We are now in the midst of Black Friday week (not day), during a topsy turvy pandemic year, when everything is upside down.So should you shop Wednesday night, Thanksgiving or Friday, the traditional big shopping day in malls? It all depends what you are looking for and where you prefer to shop. The big sale day will look very different this year, with almost all major retailers closed Thanksgiving night. No more day-long lines to grab a 65-inch TV at half price. But that makes timing Black Friday tough. So, we scanned the ads to find some of the key times for deals. All week long dealsBest Buy, Target, Amazon and Kohl's started their biggest sales last Sunday morning, but say they will add new deals on Thanksgiving Day, online. So, you should browse their ads and sites early and often.Wednesday night dealsAt Walmart, the key time to start shopping is Wednesday at 7 p.m., the night before Thanksgiving, this year. That's when Walmart's hottest deals go online, such 70-inch TVs for below 0.Note that its electronics deals are online only this year, not in-store.Thanksgiving Day dealsAt Kohl's, they will launch a virtual Black Friday sale at 11 p.m. Wednesday, which will run all day Thursday. While Kohl's may not always have lowest price, its bonus Kohl's Cash often makes their deal better than anyone else's on similar items.Best Buy started its sale last Sunday, but promises more items popping up Thursday.Friday dealsBlack Friday traditionalists will still want to shop Friday, either in store or online. If you want kitchen gadgets, like blenders, air fryers, and the new Instant pot Duo, Thursday and Friday will bring the biggest sales.Plus on Friday, you will be able to shop in store at Macy's, JC Penney, Target, Kohl's and more for home goods (though note that stores will be limiting crowds, so you may have to wait in the parking lot).Buy this the moment you find itBut from the doesn't that stink file, one item you should buy the instant you find it, never mind that it's not on sale. We're talking Microsoft's new XBox Series S, and Sony's new PlayStation 5, which have sold out instantly. The PS5 is now selling for as much as ,600 on eBay.The XBox is going for 0 to well over ,000. Doesn't that stink? If you see one at the list price of 9 at a store website, grab it.Walmart promises to put them online in limited batches starting Wednesday at 7 p.m., while Gamestop promises a few in each store early Friday morning. You can wait for clothing and toysFinally, if you are shopping for clothing or toys, don't worry. Prices usually drop around December 15, so you have plenty of time. That way, you don't waste your money.__________________________Don't Waste Your Money" is a registered trademark of Scripps Media, Inc. WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department says Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has come into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID-19 and is quarantining. The department said Wednesday that Pompeo had tested negative for the virus but was being monitored by medical professionals. The department said it would not identify the infected person with whom Pompeo came into contact for privacy reasons. The announcement comes as Pompeo and the department have been criticized for hosting holiday parties amid the coronavirus pandemic. Pompeo had been expected to attend President Donald Trump’s Cabinet meeting later Wednesday although the appointment was not listed on his public schedule. 704

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After millions upon millions of Americans cast their ballots on Election Day, the final vote for president – the one that really counts – comes down to 538 people who make up the Electoral College.Marla Blunt-Carter is one of them.“That thought of our ancestor who couldn't even write his name signing his voter registration card, at a time where really their vote didn't count, to being someone that is now voting in this electoral process,” she said. “It's indescribable.”Blunt-Carter is one of the three electors from Delaware. All three of them are Democrats because President-elect Joe Biden won his home state.“To be one of three that represents the Delaware voter that calls him their own is just huge,” Blunt-Carter said. “And then you look at the fact that the Vice president-elect is a woman of color - that is doubly amazing for me.”While she was selected by Delaware Democratic party officials to be an elector, in other states, you have to run for the privilege.“In our long history as a country, there have been very few people that have actually served in this role,” said Jonathan Fletcher, who is an elector from North Carolina.Fletcher ran to be an elector at the Republican State Convention, when it was held in North Carolina. He cast his vote for President Donald Trump, who carried the state.“It's kind of a lifelong dream,” he said. “I joke that it's a short lifelong dream – I'm only 28 – but it is a lifelong dream of mine.”The Electoral College and the popular vote don’t always match up. It’s happened five times in the country’s history, including twice in the 21st century, in 2000 and 2016. Some say that’s unfair and are calling for the Electoral College to be abolished. So, how do these electors feel about it?“It gives states like North Carolina, who are kind of middle of the pack in the electoral shuffle, it gives us a lot more equal standing with the rest of the country,” Fletcher said.Blunt-Carter said she sees why people would have some issues with the Electoral College.“I understand that people think that it is far past the time where we start to look at doing this differently,” she said. “But that's not the job of the elector. That's the job of the legislators.”For now, it’s the system in place, when it comes to choosing who gets to call the people’s house ‘home.’ 2340
